Description
BE1-11d provides comprehensive protection, monitoring and control in DC installations. Setup is simplified by pre-prepared application materials, configurable BESTlogic™Plus logic and extended protection functions for different DC system requirements. The system is needed wherever it is important to see operating conditions and to have protection that works reliably.
The IT-D isolating converter is used for measurements in DC circuits. It provides galvanic isolation, measures DC voltages and currents, and transmits the data to the BE1-11d over fibre optic communication channels. Galvanic isolation means that the relay's measuring circuits have no electrical connection to the DC power network, and the optical channel carries the signal without electrical contact. For battery systems this means monitoring voltages and currents in the charge and discharge circuits.
BE1-11d belongs to the BE1-11 platform, whose other versions are 11f, 11i, 11m, 11g and 11t. All versions run on the same firmware and share common features: 24 standard time-current characteristics and a practically unlimited number of user-defined curves, Ethernet 10/100 Mbit/s over copper or 100 Mbit/s over fibre with IEC 61850, DNP and Modbus® protocols, and large screw terminals. The relay locates the fault distance, records event oscillograms, keeps energy consumption records, logs power quality indicators and monitors the breaker status. The platform combines feeder, intersystem, motor, generator, transformer and DC network protection, and the set of functions for the BE1-11d is given in the product bulletin. Oscillography makes it possible to analyse fault events in DC circuits after tripping. The front panel has an HMI menu with a large LCD, programmable indicators and labels, select-execute buttons and configurable analog outputs.
Configuration is simplified by BESTspace™ files, ready-made BESTlogic™Plus schemes and application guides, and the offline simulator checks the logic without hardware. The system is used in battery energy storage systems (BESS), on DC switchboards of substations and power plants, in data centres, in traction and industrial DC networks, and in uninterruptible power supply systems.
