SEL-487E — differential protection of power transformers
SEL-487E protects and monitors power transformers and autotransformers with up to seven terminals. The terminal detects turn-to-turn faults from 2% of the winding, with an operating time under 1.5 cycles.

Description
The terminal performs thermal monitoring and accounts for through-fault currents. Up to 7 three-phase restraint groups are connected, 18 current inputs in total, plus 0–300 V (ph-n) voltage inputs. Three independent REF elements are provided. Protocols are IEC 61850 Ed.2.1, DNP3, PRP, PTPv2 and IEEE C37.118 synchrophasors. Digital substations are supported via TiDL or Sampled Values per IEC 61850-9-2 / IEC 61869-9.
