SEL-401 / SEL-TMU — process bus merging units
SEL-401 and SEL-TMU digitize currents, voltages and digital signals of primary equipment in digital substations. The SEL-401 publishes Sampled Values per IEC 61850-9-2 and IEC 61869-9, and the SEL-TMU sends data over optical fiber to TiDL terminals.

Description
The devices sit in open-air switchgear next to the primary equipment, with optical cable to the control room instead of copper secondary circuits. The SEL-401 also provides backup overcurrent and breaker failure protection. Terminals such as the SEL-421-7 use SEL-401 data. The SEL-TMU works with TiDL terminals over optical fiber.
