Description
The TMdrive-XL55 drive is fed from the AC grid, and its power section is water-cooled. It is intended for industrial drives of up to 16 MVA in the 6.0–6.6 kV voltage class. The motor is connected directly to the 6.6 kV output, without an output transformer, which saves cost, space and energy.
The drive is built on IGBTs with an operating voltage of 4500 V, a conservative choice of switches. The input rectifier is a diode 36-pulse unit with a separate phase-shifting transformer placed outside the electrical room. Harmonics are below the IEEE 519-1992 requirements without filters, and the power factor exceeds 0.95 over the typical control range without compensation capacitors. The five-level output voltage has a smooth waveform that suits the motor, so standard motors can be used. Efficiency is about 98.6 %.
The power section consists of input, diode rectifier, DC bus, inverter and output cabinets. It contains three draw-out inverter modules, transformer secondary voltages of 1930 V, a 5000 V DC link with six large capacitor banks, and a separate water cooling cabinet with redundant pumps. Deionized water and compatible piping materials reduce heat release in the room and the load on ventilation and air conditioning.
According to the manufacturer, based on the experience of more than 700 medium-voltage drive installations, the expected time between failures is 87,000 hours (10 years). The drive keeps running through short supply interruptions of up to 300 ms, so critical loads do not stop. There is an option for synchronous transfer of the motor to the grid without current interruption or torque shocks, which allows several motors to be started by one drive.
Installation altitude is up to 1000 m, the cooling water inlet temperature is 0–32 °C, and up to 45 °C with derating. Noise is below 75 dBA at a distance of 1 m, the enclosure rating is IP42 except for the fan openings. The main circuit withstands 17 kV for one minute. The drive is used for high-power pumps, compressors and fans in the oil and gas and chemical industries, metals, power plants and water management, and also for replacing steam and gas turbine drives with electric ones.
