Description
The TMdrive-70 and its new generation TMdrive-70e2 are water-cooled system medium-voltage frequency converters for processes that need high power and precise control of speed and torque. The drive is built on a modular common DC bus scheme: rectifier (TMdrive-P70) and inverter (TMdrive-D70) units, as well as cooling units, are arranged flexibly, including in parallel. This increases power density and reduces the footprint and installation costs.
The TMdrive-70 is available with power from 5000 to 40,000 kVA (up to 40,000 HP) at 3.3 kV. The TMdrive-70e2 is rated 6–36 MVA at voltages up to 3.65 kV. The 6 MVA frame is used in single- and two-section versions (6 and 12 MVA), and the 9 MVA frame in single-, two-, three- and four-section versions (9, 18, 27 and 36 MVA). According to the application tables, the drive cabinets are 2430 mm high. The drive allows an overload of 150–250 % with a corresponding reduction of continuous power. The input voltage is 3800 V for the fixed pulse pattern version and 3300 V for the carrier comparison version, and the system can be assembled from one, two, three or four sections.
The power switches are IEGTs (Injection Enhanced Gate Transistor) with a MOS structure, turned on and off with a voltage of ±15 V. A three-level bridge with a switching frequency of 500 Hz forms a near-sinusoidal motor and grid current. The phase modules are compact, without bulky snubbers, the power bridge is water-cooled, and the modular design shortens replacement time. The rectifier is either an active regenerative one with a power factor close to unity and minimal harmonics, or a diode non-regenerative one. Harmonics comply with IEEE 519-1992.
The drive controls induction and synchronous motors with full digital vector control. Integration with the manufacturer's controllers goes through the PP7 processor (PP7EX2 in the TMdrive-70e2), setup is done with the TMdrive-Navigator tool, and the platform is common with other TMdrive drives. The drive is used in main drives of hot and cold rolling mills, in high-power compressors, fans and pumps, in mills including HPGR and ball mills, in mine hoists and on test stands.
