SSW7000 G4 — medium-voltage soft starter 2.3–13.8 kV, 70–600 A
SSW7000 G4 is a soft starter for medium-voltage induction and synchronous motors at 2.3–13.8 kV with a current of 70–600 A. It controls starting and stopping, protects the motor from overheating and removes current surges in the grid, so it is installed on pumps, fans, exhausters, conveyors and mills in the mining, marine, metallurgical and cement industries.

Description
The voltage on the motor is regulated by changing the firing angle of anti-parallel thyristors, so current and torque are reduced during starting and the mechanical stress on the drive is lower. The unit suits new facilities and modernization, and is also used in the pulp and paper and sugar industries and in water supply. Standard versions cover 2300, 3300, 4160, 5500, 6900, 10 000, 11 000, 13 200 and 13 800 V, and versions above 600 A are made on request.
The cabinet is assembled as a complete cell. At the input there are MV fuses or a relay with a switch, followed by the main and bypass vacuum contactors or vacuum circuit breakers, which can perform direct starting. Motor protection is built in, including earth fault protection, the MV and LV compartments are completely separated, and the thyristors are controlled by fiber optics. The breaking capacity of the version with input protection is 40 kA for 2.3–6.9 kV and 25 kA for 10–11 kV; for 13.2–13.8 kV 31.5, 40 or 50 kA are available on request.
The power units are built as separate modules, and the heatsinks are sized for a heavy overload cycle. Starting current is 400 % for 20 s for units of 70–359 A and 450 % for 30 s for 500–600 A, up to 2 starts per hour. The grid is 50–60 Hz (tolerance 45–66 Hz), the ambient temperature from −10 to +40 °C, up to +50 °C with current derating of 2 % per degree.
The device has seven starting modes. These are direct starting, voltage ramp, voltage ramp with current limit, current limit, current ramp, pump control against water hammer, and FTC torque control with three profiles for constant, linear and quadratic loads. The operator works with a graphical panel; there is a real-time clock, SoftPLC, free WPS software, USB and Bluetooth, and alarm and event logs with CSV export. For process control systems, modules for Modbus-RTU, Modbus-TCP, DeviceNet, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, Profibus-DP and PROFINET are provided.
The degree of protection is IP41 or IP54, NEMA12 or NEMA3R on request, painted with 80 µm powder epoxy paint RAL 7035. To order, the following are made: reversing starters, backup relay protection, power factor correction capacitor cells, outdoor IP54 versions, an output earthing switch, versions for synchronous motors and withdrawable units. Every unit is tested at the factory according to IEC 62271-200, IEC 62271-1, IEC 60529 and UL 347.
