Silcostart / Silcostat — medium-voltage soft starters 3.3–13.8 kV, 400–9000 kW
Silcostart and Silcostat are thyristor medium-voltage soft starters for constant-speed induction motors. Silcostart covers 400–9000 kW at 3300–11,000 V, while Silcostat is built for 3.3–13.8 kV with current up to 900 A. The units reduce starting current and remove mechanical shocks during acceleration.

Description
In many installations the motor runs at constant rated power throughout its service life, and direct starting is unacceptable for it. The share of renewable generation is growing, lines are ageing and networks are overloaded, so many power systems barely withstand direct starting of large electric motors. The manufacturer offers low- and medium-voltage soft starters for induction and synchronous motors. They provide smooth, stepless acceleration control, eliminate mechanical shocks and reduce starting current, protecting both the motor and the driven machine.
Silcostart is a digital soft starter for induction motors in fixed-speed drives. The power is 400–9000 kW, the voltage 3300–11,000 V, with a tolerance of ±10 % on mains voltage and ±5 % on 50/60 Hz frequency. The current limit is set from 100 to 300/400 % of rated current, the acceleration time from 1 to 30 s, and in maximum mode 2–3 starts per hour are permitted. Remote control uses 24 V DC and 230 V AC digital inputs, and signalling is by dry contacts. The control circuits are isolated from the high-voltage circuits by optical fibre, which raises safety and noise immunity of the unit.
Silcostat in the soft-starter version is a thyristor voltage controller for 3.3–13.8 kV, 50/60 Hz, with current up to 900 A; larger values are considered on request. Cooling is by air, the degree of protection is IP42, and the design follows IEC standards. Options include line and bypass contactors, a line isolator, an output earthing switch, a motor protection relay and Profibus, Modbus or IEC 61850 communication.
For a grid-friendly start of large synchronous machines, the highly available LCI Silcovert S is used. It is often used as the starting device of gas turbine units at pumping stations. Typical soft-start loads are constant-speed pumps, fans and compressors in oil and gas, water supply, power generation and industry. The tolerance on mains voltage and frequency is given for Silcostart, while for Silcostat the voltage, current and standards are stated. The manufacturer's quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015.
