SARN-LT compact digital generator excitation regulator

A compact digital excitation regulator for synchronous generators on an M340 or M580 industrial controller. Works with static excitation (up to 400 A in a typical cabinet), an exciter or an asynchronous exciter. For small and medium hydro plants and excitation system upgrades.

Description

SARN-LT is a simplified version of the SARN digital excitation regulator, developed at the manufacturer's Carquefou site and approved by EDF. The regulator is intended for lower-power synchronous generators and applications where the full set of functions and interfaces of the SARN-V2 is not needed. It works with static excitation (up to 400 A in a typical cabinet), with an exciter or with an asynchronous exciter (AE). It is used at small and medium hydro plants, on industrial generators and in excitation system upgrades.

The intelligent part is built on an M340 or M580 industrial controller. The package includes a digital regulation module with two cascaded loops, a 7″ touch panel (local and/or remote), a sequence and fault handling module with an archive, and a communication and measurement module. External interfaces include 16 discrete inputs/outputs (expandable), Modbus TCP/IP (other protocols optional), 8 analog inputs and 2 outputs (expandable), and optional Pt100 inputs.

Functions: digital control of the field current in manual mode, backup analog control (optional), stator voltage regulation in automatic mode cascaded with the current loop, and maintenance of the reactive power or tg φ of the unit or plant. The field current and stator current (with summer and winter setpoints), stator voltage, reactive power consumption and U/f (optional) are limited. There is voltage matching before synchronization, setpoint tracking between automatic and manual modes, and voltage build-up in island mode, during black start and on energization. Loops and limits are set from the HMI without special software.

The system diagnoses faults of contactors, excitation and prolonged start, cabinet circuit breakers, the rectifier bridge (overheating, fuses), discrete and analog signal boards, the PLC watchdog timer, and with options also minimum and maximum field current, rotor earth fault and overheating of the supply transformer. A tropical version is provided, along with integration of unit control and generator and transformer protection in one cabinet. Management of faults, alarms, display and communication is also possible via the web. Local and remote panels allow control from both the cabinet and the control desk.
