Description

The technology was first created for aluminum electrolysis and then extended to units of small and medium rating (S-FORMER-mini). The unit operates from a three-phase 220/440 V grid or from a 3.3–35 kV grid. The rectifier is assembled in a double-star circuit. Versions include 260 V / 26 kA, 510 V / 16.5 kA, 150 V / 52.5 kA, 80 V / 60 kA, and also a thyristor rectifier of 162.5 V / 12 kA. This makes it possible to select a version for the current and voltage of a particular electrolysis line.

The rectifier is installed directly on the transformer, so the unit takes up less floor area. For overseas projects, the transformer and rectifier are combined into a single block that is assembled and lifted by crane at the factory. The efficiency of the unit is confirmed by joint tests of the transformer and rectifier before shipment. Installation is indoor or outdoor. Pre-assembly at the factory reduces the amount of work on site.

The transformer can have oil-water, oil-air, natural and forced oil, dry or cast cooling. For the rectifier, water, water-air, direct water and air cooling are available, as well as cooling with deionized water.

Diode and thyristor rectifiers are produced with control of current (ACR), voltage (AVR) and power (AWR). The standard accuracy is ±2 %, and higher accuracy is available as an option. Control units are analog or digital (DDC). The digital unit is connected by optical fiber at a distance of up to 100 m, so settings can be changed remotely. The control unit can stand separately from the rectifier, and only the power part is located on site.

Harmonics entering the rectifier are suppressed by 12-, 24- and 48-pulse rectification circuits and by filters for the whole system. The manufacturer carries out harmonics and power factor studies and supplies all related equipment. Options include a standby cooling system, a ladder and a maintenance platform, inspection windows, a standby parallel thyristor, and remote control. Applications are electrolysis of aluminum and other metals, anodizing, electroplating, electrochemical treatment and electrodeposition. The units are needed where the process requires a high direct current with adjustable voltage.
