Description
Proteus PCS-E Station is a turnkey medium-voltage station for energy storage systems (BESS) in a plug & play format. It includes one or two bidirectional Proteus PCS-E inverters, a step-up transformer, medium-voltage switchgear (RMU) and an auxiliary power cabinet. The station is delivered fully assembled and tested, which reduces installation time and cost on site. The output power of the stations is from 2550 to 9400 kVA. IEC versions have one or two PCS-E units, UL versions have one PCS-E.
For a station with one inverter in the high-power version (Proteus PCS 4000E–5150E), the rated power at 40 °C and maximum DC voltage is 4000–5153 kVA, up to 5477 kVA at 25 °C and up to 5535 kVA at 1300 V DC. The maximum DC voltage is 1473–1500 V and the minimum is from 934 to 1202 V. The inverter has two power modules, a maximum DC current of 2 × 2227 A and up to 6 fuses per pole. The DC-side short-circuit withstand is 2 × 250 kA for 3 ms in the configuration with two DC buses (two independent batteries) or 1 × 250 kA with a single bus.
The voltage on the low-voltage side is 660–850 V and on the medium-voltage side up to 34.5 kV. The frequency range is 47.5–52.5 / 57–63.5 Hz, current THD is below 1 % and the power factor ranges from 0 (lagging) through 1 to 0 (leading). The transformer has vector group Dy11y11 and KNAN cooling, and the medium-voltage switchgear is rated up to 38 kV. Control and monitoring use Modbus TCP/IP, and a built-in web server is provided.
Safety is built into the design: direct data exchange with the battery system, fast-acting DC fuses, insulation monitoring, class I+II surge arresters and pre-charge. Motorised disconnectors, reverse polarity detection, overtemperature protection and an emergency button are provided. The design is independent of the battery type, whether lithium-ion, lead-acid, flow or others. Four-quadrant operation, grid forming, synthetic inertia, fast frequency regulation and black start are supported.
The operating temperature is from −20 to +60 °C, relative humidity 4–100 % non-condensing, ingress protection IP54, with liquid cooling and forced air circulation. The stations operate in extreme climatic conditions. Options include a low-temperature kit down to −30 °C, factory installation of DC fuses, enhanced anti-corrosion protection, motorised MV switchgear, UPS and seismic reinforcement. Applications are grid-scale energy storage, hybrid PV + BESS power plants and connection of storage to 10–35 kV grids.
