Description
The system feeds current into the rotor winding, creates the magnetic field and keeps the generator voltage in steady-state and transient conditions of the power system. It is supplied with PID regulation and a power system stabilizer PSS, with optimized and adaptive control laws, and is configured to project requirements. The supported schemes are static self-excitation (PCS-9400A), independent two-machine (PCS-9400B), three-machine with a transformer (PCS-9400C), brushless (PCS-9400D) and with a DC exciter (PCS-9400E), with one or two excitation sets per generator.
The system keeps the terminal voltage as the load changes, shares reactive power between generators operating in parallel, and improves static, dynamic and transient stability. In case of internal generator faults it de-excites the field, and it also limits maximum and minimum excitation. The composition includes the digital excitation regulator PCS-941X, the thyristor rectifier PCS-9420, the diode rectifier PCS-9421, the field suppression device PCS-943X and the auxiliary cabinets PCS-944X.
The regulator is available with two or three channels, each channel independent and running on a PowerPC, DSP and FPGA platform. It implements PID + PSS, various regulation laws, droop, and limiters for underexcitation, overexcitation, false forcing, peak current and V/Hz. Protection against overvoltage at no load and against VT circuit faults, self-diagnostics, an oscilloscope and an event recorder are provided. Local control and parameter viewing are performed through an HMI with an LCD.
Thyristor rectifiers are made for 250, 800, 1200, 1800, 2400 and 3000 A, and diode rectifiers for 1800, 2400 and 3000 A. The cabinets operate in parallel without switching, with a current sharing coefficient above 0.9. Cooling is by air, with aluminum or heat pipe heat sinks. The field is suppressed with a linear or nonlinear resistor and a breaker with magnetic arc extinction.
The firing angle resolution is 0.00045°, the ADC is 16-bit, and AC is measured directly at 72 points per period. The regulator executes 4000 regulation cycles per second, that is one cycle takes 0.25 ms, the setpoint range is 10–130 % of rated voltage, the response time is less than 0.1 s, and the frequency range is 5–1000 Hz. Communication runs over Ethernet, optical links and RS-232/RS-485.
