Description
MaxShorePower is a shore power system for ships alongside the quay (cold ironing). Static frequency conversion makes it possible to supply the ship with stable power at 50 or 60 Hz regardless of the shore grid frequency, so the ship's diesel generators are switched off at berth. This reduces emissions and noise in the port and meets the growing sustainability requirements of port authorities. The manufacturer combines 60 years of experience in port technologies with competence in power electronics and system design. Port authorities require reduced emissions and carbon footprint, and the system is intended for exactly this transition to clean energy in ports and terminals.
The system is supplied in a containerized or centralized variant. The containerized version is compact, with a walk-in aisle inside, fully equipped and pre-engineered as a shore conversion system. It is assembled and tested at the factory, including in e-house format, which shortens installation time and complexity.
The basis is TMdrive frequency converter technology. The range of industrial-scale static converters covers ratings from 1.0 to 100 MVA, and in port power systems such converters raise efficiency and reliability. A modular configuration of several converters makes it possible to match the load and supply one or several ships. The containers are assembled and tested in advance, so only connection and commissioning remain at the quay. The number of converters in use is chosen for the required load, and a single convenient control interface is provided for terminal and ship personnel.
The system is designed to international grid standards, including IEC/IEEE 80005-1 for high-voltage shore connections. Communication between the ship and the shore grid is stable, the human-machine interface is convenient, and connection and operation for terminal and ship personnel proceed without problems. The footprint and cooling requirements are minimal, so operating costs are low. The maintenance program is based on a service life of selected components of over 25 years. The system is used at container and cruise terminals, ferry berths and naval bases, where ships need to be powered from shore instead of by onboard generators.
