Description

GLOBALTA NG is a standardized digital automatic voltage regulator for simple and compact applications. It regulates the stator voltage and field current of synchronous generators with brushless exciters, and its set of functions and parameters allows use in many systems. It is used on diesel and gas engine generators, small hydro plants, and marine and industrial generators.

The main difference from HYDRALTA NG is the built-in power bridge in a full-bridge circuit of two MOSFET transistors and two diodes. This circuit gives fast de-excitation on load rejection. The bridge delivers a field current of 20 A at an ambient temperature of +50 °C continuously and 30 A for 10 s; independent protection at the 350 V DC level guards it against overvoltage. The power bridge supply is 50–230 V, from DC up to 500 Hz, so the regulator can be fed from an auxiliary winding or a permanent magnet pilot generator.

The regulator maintains voltage (AUTO), field current (MANU), power factor and reactive power. There is voltage matching, 0–20% droop for parallel operation, mode tracking, and manual and automatic soft start. The field current, reactive power, stator current and U/f are limited. Also provided are detection of rotating diode failures, a fault parameter recorder, redundancy management and protection functions. Options include a PSS power system stabilizer, limit correction by external temperature, and redundancy with a second GLOBALTA NG regulator.

Control supply is 24 V DC (18–36 V), 20 W. Stator voltage measurement is 100–120 V AC 50/60 Hz (0–165%), bus 80–120%, stator current 1 or 5 A (0–140%). Voltage regulation accuracy is 0.2% in the range of ±10%, field current 0.2% in the range of 0–1.2 of rated. There are four analog inputs of ±10 V or ±20 mA, four analog outputs of 0–10 V, eight logic inputs, healthy, trip and contactor control outputs, and five programmable outputs. Communication is through Modbus TCP/IP, with a web server for setup and monitoring and oscillography. Operating temperature is +5…+50 °C, storage −20…+70 °C.
