Description
The excitation system feeds the rotor winding of a synchronous machine with direct current, automatically regulates the voltage and reactive power of the generator, forces the excitation during grid faults and de-excites the field. The systems are made by the subsidiary machine-building company in Harbin (China). They belong to the group of auxiliary products that complement the main equipment, hydro units and turbogenerators.
According to the manufacturer, excitation systems are produced for generators of 25 to 1200 MW, and the number of systems supplied exceeds 1200. They are supplied for its own hydro generators, pumped storage motor-generators, turbogenerators and synchronous condensers, and also for modernisation of existing machines. In a modernisation, the new system replaces an obsolete excitation station without replacing the generator itself.
The same product group includes power plant automation systems, hydro turbine governors with oil pressure units, and hydrogen cooling, seal oil and cooling water systems for turbogenerators. This makes it possible to order excitation together with related plant systems.
A typical composition includes an exciter or rectifier converter, an automatic voltage regulator, field forcing and de-excitation devices, and protections. The configuration is determined by the machine type, since for hydro and turbogenerators, pumped storage motor-generators and synchronous condensers the requirements for response speed and regulation range differ.
Design data (rectifier type, excitation currents and voltages) are not given in the available materials. They are clarified from the generator parameters, that is the rated output, the voltage and current of the rotor and the forcing requirements. Manufactured in Harbin (China).
