Description

DECS-250E is a digital excitation control system with a built-in power rectifier. It regulates, monitors and protects synchronous generators and motors precisely. Three models are produced for continuous excitation current of 50, 100 or 200 A DC. The system is used for static excitation, that is, supplying the main excitation winding, or for supplying the exciter field of a rotating system.

Regulation, monitoring, protection and the power rectifier are combined in one product, so a separate rectifier unit does not need to be selected. All DECS-250E components are placed in a compact cabinet, which makes installation simpler and cheaper in various installations, in particular when replacing old excitation systems. The positive forcing rectifier bridge of 50, 100 or 200 A is chosen to obtain the best response of the main excitation winding or exciter winding. Typical sites are small and medium hydro plants, industrial thermal power plants and synchronous motors.

Preconfigured programmable logic adds flexibility, because the standard configuration can be adapted to an individual scheme. The system has a full set of generator and motor protections for accurate detection and disconnection of faults. There are many communication interfaces, so integration into station control systems is straightforward. For redundant schemes a diode module is offered for dual DECS-250E systems.

Setup is done in BESTCOMSPlus® with graphical programmable BESTlogic™Plus logic, automatic PID tuning and self-tuning. The built-in offline simulator allows the logic to be checked without hardware.

For DECS-250E there are IDP-801 and IDP-1201 operator panels, and CEM-2020 contact and AEM-2020 analog signal expansion modules. Accessories include 24 V and 125 V DC initial excitation modules, a shaft voltage suppression module, 50/100 A and 200 A line filters, fuses for 50, 100 and 200 A, a fan replacement kit for the rectifier, a three-pole 225 A, 600 V AC contactor with a 110–130 V DC coil, and a fuse holder. The manufacturer produces these systems at its plant in Highland, Illinois, USA.

Questions and answers

What excitation currents is the DECS-250E produced for?

Three models for continuous DC excitation current of 50, 100 or 200 A. The positive forcing rectifier bridge is chosen for the same current.

Which excitation schemes is the DECS-250E suitable for?

Static excitation, where the main excitation winding is supplied, and supplying the exciter field of a rotating system.

How can the DECS-250E be made redundant?

For dual systems a diode module is offered. All components of each system are placed in a compact cabinet.
