Description
DECS-150 combines in one case everything needed for precise regulation of the voltage, reactive power and power factor of a generator. The regulator responds quickly and protects the generator. Compared with the DECS-250 it is a more economical option for generators with a lower excitation current. The regulator is rated for excitation currents up to 10 A; for higher currents the DECS-250 is considered. It is used on diesel and gas engine generator sets, small hydro plants and industrial synchronous machines.
The 7 or 10 A pulse-width modulated power stage gives a high initial response to load changes and suits any supply scheme: shunt, auxiliary winding, permanent magnet generator or DC. RMS measurement and a robust power stage keep operation stable with strongly distorted voltage waveforms caused by non-linear loads.
The optional built-in system stabilizer PSS helps meet strict grid code requirements without external devices, and the component itself is certified to the VDE-AR-N 4110 standard. The microprocessor architecture allows capabilities to be extended as needed, and the full set of generator protections accurately detects and disconnects hazardous conditions. The Network Load Sharing function simplifies parallel operation of generators. The multilingual interface reduces the likelihood of errors during setup.
Setup is done in BESTCOMSPlus® with graphical programmable BESTlogic™Plus logic, automatic PID tuning and self-tuning. The built-in offline simulator checks the logic without hardware, so part of the commissioning is done before the engineers travel to site.
The following options are offered for the regulator: a connector kit (9492614100), a bracket for remote mounting (9576500050), and inrush current limiting modules ICRM-7 and ICRM-15, which protect the PWM regulator from current surges when it is powered from an independent source. Ready-made, pre-assembled and tested systems SGC-150 and SMC-150 are produced on the basis of DECS-150. SGC-150 is a synchronous generator controller with one or two regulators; SMC-150 is a synchronous motor controller supplied with ES-55 and ES-74S relays. The manufacturer produces the regulators at its plants in Highland, Illinois, and Taylor, Texas.

Questions and answers
What excitation current does the DECS-150 provide?
The PWM power stage is rated for 7 or 10 A. For generators with a higher excitation current, the DECS-250 should be compared.
Does the DECS-150 have a system stabilizer?
A built-in PSS stabilizer is available as an option. The component is certified to VDE-AR-N 4110, which helps meet grid code requirements.
Which ready-made systems are built on the DECS-150?
SGC-150 is a synchronous generator controller with one or two regulators. SMC-150 is a synchronous motor controller supplied with ES-55 and ES-74S relays.
