Description

The regulator range covers the Mark VX, Mark XX, MEC-20, MEC-100, D-Vo, D-Vo Light, MGC I, MGC II and E-Vo models. There are nine models in the range, so the choice depends on the machine type, its voltage and its frame size. The regulator holds the generator voltage, shares reactive load in parallel operation, when several generators feed common busbars, and protects the excitation system. The manufacturer develops these regulators in-house for its own synchronous generators.

According to the manufacturer, the analog regulators are suitable for low-voltage and medium-voltage machines. They are fully isolated and work with single-phase or three-phase voltage sensing. The digital regulators control the excitation of synchronous generators, are fully configurable and have a built-in set of regulation functions, protections and operating modes. For them the manufacturer lists marine, hydropower and cogeneration applications.

The Mark VX is the standard regulator of MXB-E generators. The E-Vo is intended for low-voltage generators up to frame size 630. The MGC I works with medium-voltage generators up to 6900 V and up to frame size 560, while the MGC II suits machines of larger frame sizes. The D-Vo Light is fitted to generators above 6900 V and to marine machines. The D-Vo is the standard for generators of frame size 800 and above and for all high-voltage generators, and it is compatible with any generator of the manufacturer. The choice of model therefore comes down to the voltage and frame size of the machine, and the limits in the range lie at 560, 630 and 800 and at 6900 V.

The regulators are supplied both as part of generators and separately, to replace obsolete regulators during the modernization of generating sets and small hydropower plants. An operating manual for the D-Vo Light is available on the manufacturer's website. The manufacturer names sectors such as cogeneration, hydropower, oil and gas, power generation, industry and the marine sector. The digital design simplifies integration of the generator into the plant automation system and diagnostics of excitation modes. When replacing a regulator on a machine in service, the generator model, voltage and frame size are checked against the applicability table.

Questions and answers

Which regulator should be chosen for a generator above 6900 V?

The D-Vo Light is intended for generators above 6900 V. The D-Vo is the standard for frame size 800 and above and for all high-voltage generators.

Which machines is the E-Vo suitable for?

For low-voltage generators up to frame size 630. For medium-voltage machines up to 6900 V and frame size 560 there is the MGC I.

How do analog and digital regulators differ?

Analog regulators are suitable for low-voltage and medium-voltage machines, are fully isolated and work with single-phase or three-phase voltage sensing. Digital regulators are fully configurable and have a built-in set of regulation functions, protections and operating modes.
