TOTUS G9 is a modular online power transformer monitor with DGA on a nine-gas profile and oil moisture content. It is installed on the most critical substation and power plant transformers and, if needed, supplemented with PD, bushing, through-fault current and OLTC modules.

Description
TOTUS G9 sits at the top of the manufacturer's modular range. In it, G1 is intended for the mass fleet, G5 for important sites, and G9 is installed on transformers whose failure costs the most. These are generator step-up transformers of power plants, autotransformers of main substations, and supply nodes of wind farms, solar plants and data centres. The basis of the monitor is online analysis of dissolved gases together with moisture content. Such a set is enough to recognise overheating, partial and arc discharges, and degradation of cellulose insulation.
The monitor is expanded with modules without replacing the base unit. The bushing module (BM) works with 3, 6 or 9 bushings and monitors capacitance, tan delta, leakage current and its phase, temperature and load. The partial discharge module catches insulation defects at an early stage. Patented algorithms separate discharges in the bushings and in the tank and cut off interference, and the PD Triangle diagram shows by colour the presence, intensity and phase of the activity. The TFC module records through-fault currents, after which mechanical stresses remain in the windings and the insulation ages faster. OLTC monitoring is available separately.
The manufacturer stresses arc diagnostics. An ordinary DGA monitor sees only the growth of acetylene, the main marker of high-energy D2 discharges. TOTUS compares the stepwise growth of acetylene with high-energy events of the PD module, determines the phase and winding where the arc occurred, and keeps a count of such events. In the brochure example, the PD Triangle pointed to phase H3 of the HV winding, and the nature of the discharges to an object at floating potential, so the inspection of the transformer started with this phase immediately.
Analytical models (thermal, moisture, load, insulation ageing) calculate the hot-spot temperature, permissible overload, moisture in paper insulation and remaining life. Data go to the TOTUSPro software and to the Sapient Asset Insights platform, which brings together health indices across the whole fleet. A single hardware base for all modules simplifies operation and reduces the total cost of ownership, and the company's service adds expert support when analysing alarms. The company's article on transformer condition assessment describes a hybrid condition index method following CIGRE 761 guidance, where a condition group from 1 to 5 is combined with an overall health index from 0.00 to 0.99.
