Description
The item combines original resistance thermometers supplied as spare parts for gearboxes of the PEAB 4456,5 – PEAB 4458,1 series installed on SWT-2.3 wind turbines of 2 300 kW. In the manufacturer's designations they appear as THERMOM-WIDST, short for the German Widerstandsthermometer, that is, resistance thermometer. The sensing element of the sensor changes its electrical resistance depending on temperature, and the signal goes to the turbine control system or to the condition monitoring system.
In a wind turbine gearbox such sensors monitor the oil temperature in the sump and the temperature of the bearing supports of the high speed and intermediate shafts. A rise in bearing temperature is one of the first signs of a developing defect such as wear, lack of lubrication, misalignment or damage to the rolling elements. Based on the sensor signals, the turbine control system limits power or stops the machine, and this prevents a serious gearbox failure. A faulty or wrongly selected sensor leads either to false stops and lost yield, or to a missed real overheating.
The versions differ in the installation length EL given in the designation, which is 95, 100, 110 and 315 mm. The length is selected according to the place of installation. Short sensors are fitted in the bearing support housings, and the long one (315 mm) is designed for deeper immersion, for example in the oil bath. The order is placed by the manufacturer's number, 1158079 for EL 95, 1157931 for EL 100, 1157712 for EL 110 and 1158206 for EL 315.
The type of sensing element, measuring range, accuracy class, connection scheme and connection thread are not given in the available materials, and they are clarified by the part number and the documentation of the particular gearbox.
