Smart Navigator 2.0 (LC, HV, HC) — fault indicator and monitoring sensor for overhead lines 2.2–161 kV with remote data transmission
Smart Navigator 2.0 is mounted on an overhead line conductor of 2.2–161 kV as a short-circuit indicator and monitoring sensor. It records short circuits, voltage dips and overloads and immediately sends a message to the control center. According to the manufacturer, the fault direction and GPS referencing shorten the search for faults on overhead lines by up to 70 %.

Description
The device is powered by the line current itself. It draws energy from the conductor and stores it in a rechargeable lithium cell for periods of low load or no load. One overhead line section is monitored by a set consisting of a master and two satellites. The satellites send the measured values and fault information to the master, and the master exchanges data with the control center through the iHost platform over LTE mobile communication or in the 450 MHz band. Each fault reaches the control room within 1 minute.
The message contains the fault direction, the fact of voltage loss, a drop or rise in current and an increase in conductor temperature. These data quickly establish the place and cause of the event. Operating parameters are set for each installation point to avoid false operations. The direction of power flow reveals sections with distributed generation. Remote maintenance is also performed through iHost, that is, configuration changes and software updates without sending personnel.
The basic Smart Navigator 2.0 is intended for distribution overhead lines of 2.2–69 kV. It self-configures already at a load current of 5 A and withstands a current of 600 A. For networks with a base load below 5 A, there is the LC variant with a Pole Master pole-mounted station. Its modem is powered by a built-in solar panel and battery, up to 9 satellites are connected to one station, and the service life exceeds 10 years.
The HV version works in 69–161 kV networks and is oriented toward monitoring. Built-in current, voltage and conductor temperature sensors show the actual loading of the line, and HC is rated for a continuous current up to 1000 A. The German operator WEMAG Netz measured conductor temperature this way during a two-year pilot project and raised the power output of wind and solar plants in spring and autumn, avoiding unnecessary generation curtailment.
Installation is done live from the ground with a hot stick and a mounting tool, according to the HV brochure onto a conductor up to 12 meters high. The clamping mechanism prevents the device from being torn off the conductor by weather, and removal likewise takes place without de-energizing. For configuration, USB transmitters are used, including those for 915 and 923 MHz for different regions, a test and reset magnet and a telescopic stick up to 123 kV.

Questions and answers
What voltage class are the Smart Navigator 2.0 versions rated for?
The basic version and LC work on overhead lines of 2.2–69 kV. HV and HC are intended for lines of 69–161 kV.
What minimum line current is needed to power the indicator?
The basic device self-configures from a 5 A load. For lines with a load below 5 A, LC with a Pole Master station on a solar panel is used.
How is data transmitted to the control center?
The master of the set transmits data over an LTE network or in the 450 MHz band to the iHost platform. Settings are changed and software is updated through it as well.
