RFC 7 — new-generation gas flow computer (volume and calorific value corrector)
RFC 7 is a compact gas flow computer in a 19-inch housing for custody transfer and process metering. It collects data from meters, gas analyzers, pressure and temperature sensors and calculates the standard volume, the compressibility factor K and the calorific value. It works as a volume corrector (Vol) or a calorific value corrector (Energy).

Description
RFC 7 is a new-generation gas flow computer for accurate flow measurement and control in industrial applications. It is built on a universal hardware platform designed for connecting all of the manufacturer's measuring devices. As a compact computer it performs three main functions. First, it collects data from gas meters, gas analyzers, pressure and temperature sensors with plausibility checks. Then it calculates the standard volume flow, the compressibility factor K and the calorific value using methods for different gas models. Finally, it archives and outputs the measured and calculated values, visualizes them graphically and sends alarms and warnings when limits are exceeded.
Depending on the connected devices and the software configuration, the unit works as a volume corrector (Vol), which determines K and the standard volume of gas mixtures such as natural gas and biogas, or as a calorific value corrector (Energy) for determining energy content. RFC 7 supports custody transfer and process metering with common meter types and integrates with gas analysis, automation and process control systems. The built-in archive stores data for calculations with time stamps and generates reports for audit and proof of compliance.
A Single-Stream version for one metering run is available. A multi-stream version for 2–4 runs is announced, but the manufacturer states that it is not yet available. The 19-inch housing is aluminium, with an FR4 front panel and IP20 protection. Dimensions are 213.36×133.35×230 mm for one to two runs and 426.72×133.35×230 mm for three to four, with a weight of 1.75 kg for one run and 2.25 kg for two. The supply is 24 V DC, and five replaceable boards are fitted per run, including a communication and computing board and an input/output system. ARM processors provide fast calculations at low power consumption.
Four Ethernet interfaces per run connect the unit to separate networks, the protocols are designed for SCADA and ERP, and cybersecurity mechanisms protect the data from unauthorized access. The touch operator interface has search by coordinates and text and a multilingual menu. Remote service is through a web browser, and on-the-fly verification, value freezing and functional test functions simplify commissioning. RFC 7 is used at gas measurement stations of gas transmission and distribution companies, at industrial metering points and at biomethane plants.

Questions and answers
How many metering runs does RFC 7 support?
The Single-Stream version for one run is available. Multi-Stream for 2–4 runs is announced, but the manufacturer states that it is not yet available.
What are the dimensions and power supply of RFC 7?
The 19″ housing measures 213.36×133.35×230 mm for one to two runs and 426.72×133.35×230 mm for three to four. The supply is 24 V DC and the protection rating is IP20.
How do the Vol and Energy configurations differ?
Vol determines the compressibility factor K and the standard volume of gas mixtures, including natural gas and biogas. Energy calculates the calorific value to determine energy content.
