Description
PGC 9301 is a process gas chromatograph for analyzing the composition of natural gas and purified biomethane, tested to recommendation OIML R140. The device determines up to eleven main components of natural gas in mole fractions and from them calculates the gross and net calorific value, density at standard conditions, relative density and Wobbe index according to ISO 6976 or GPA 2172-09. The methane number can be added as an option. The compressibility of the gas is calculated on the basis of AGA 8. Accuracy for calorific value and density is ±0.10 %, which is enough to determine the energy content of gas for settlements with consumers and suppliers.
The share of renewable sources is growing, gas quality in networks fluctuates, and additional monitoring of hydrogen and oxygen is needed. The chromatograph is designed for renewable energy, biogas and Power-to-Gas, and it reduces operating costs and carrier gas consumption.
The family has two variants. PGC 9301 is intended for natural gas and determines 11 components up to C6+. PGC 9301 Biogas works with biomethane and natural gas up to C4+ and additionally measures hydrogen sulphide H2S and carbonyl sulphide COS. The chromatograph consists of five main parts: a measuring unit, an analytical computer, a sampler, a pressure reducer and a gas supply unit. The measuring units are built on a modular principle and fitted with two column modules (5Å molecular sieve and, in the Biogas version, PoraPLOT U). The carrier gas is grade 5.0 helium. The analysis time is about 3.5 minutes per measured stream. The mole fractions of the components underlie all further calculations, including calorific value and Wobbe index.
The device is installed in temperature-controlled rooms from −20 to +60 °C. The sample temperature must be above the water and hydrocarbon dew points and no higher than 100 °C. The modular design eases integration into existing installations and stations of the gas transmission system, at underground gas storage and at industrial sites. The early models of the family, PGC 9302–9304 and GC 9310, have been discontinued, and the manufacturer names RGC 704 as their replacement. User training and service are offered, including a mobile chromatograph for on-site checks.
