Next Evo / Kairos / Drone — cathodic protection data loggers for gas pipelines

Next Evo, Kairos and Drone are loggers for continuous remote monitoring of cathodic protection on underground steel gas pipelines. They record the potential with the protection current on and off (EON/EOFF) on an auxiliary electrode. They comply with ISO 15589-1 and EN 13509 and operate from −25 to +60 °C.

Description

The devices record the main operating parameters of cathodic protection of underground steel gas pipelines and other metal structures. These include potential measurement cycles with the protection current on and off (EON/EOFF) on an auxiliary electrode (coupon), from which the polarization potential is assessed without the ohmic component. The loggers comply with ISO 15589-1 and EN 13509, which set out the principles of monitoring and the methods for measuring cathodic protection effectiveness. They are installed at test points on the linear section of gas pipelines, near cathodic protection stations, at gas distribution stations, compressor and booster stations, and district pressure reduction stations.

Next Evo is the new model of the series. It has five measurement channels with an input resistance above 10 MΩ (channel 2 above 1 MΩ) and continuously records 86 400 points per day. The data is processed minute by minute: minimum, maximum, average, standard deviation, shares of time below and above thresholds, and the number of alarm limit excursions. Daily data is stored for two years and per-second data for 25 days. The built-in cyclic interrupter is configured remotely. There is an RS-485 interface for direct connection to the converter or rectifier of the cathodic protection station, one digital input and one output.

Communication is local via BLE and remote via the built-in LTE-M modem. Power comes from the main battery for up to 5 years or from a 230 V mains supply with a backup battery for up to 60 days, protection is IP54, and the dimensions are 170×120×80 mm. Kairos is a four-channel logger with similar data processing, a mechanical or solid-state interrupter and a 4G+2G/GPRS modem. It stores per-second data for 4 days, the battery lasts up to 3 years, and the dimensions are 215×85×80 mm. Drone is a two-channel potential and current logger for continuous automatic data reading. It has no other channels.

Accessories include an external power supply, a backup battery, cables, an external antenna and shunts for 1.5, 15 or 30 A. Next Evo and Kairos are natively integrated with the S2B cloud platform. The operating temperature is from −25 to +60 °C. All three devices are intended for continuous remote monitoring.
