Description
MHT410 monitors hydrogen, one of the main diagnostic gases of a power transformer, and in parallel measures the moisture and temperature of the insulating fluid. The device helps prevent outages in transmission and distribution networks and detect faults at an early stage, which lowers the total cost of ownership. The manufacturer calls continuous monitoring of hydrogen and moisture the first step towards extending transformer life and moving to predictive maintenance.
MHT410 works in situ. The capacitive hydrogen and moisture sensors sit directly in the flow of insulating fluid, so the pumps and membranes that release hydrogen into the gas phase are not needed, and there is no cross-sensitivity to other gases. The hydrogen trend is reliable, and moisture data arrive quickly. The device is compatible with all insulating fluids, including silicone oil. There are no moving parts or consumables, and the user installs the monitor in less than 30 minutes. According to the order form, the connection has a 1.5 inch NPT thread, and versions are available for mineral oils, natural and synthetic esters and silicone oils.
The design is intended for harsh conditions: a metal IP66 enclosure, isolated inputs and outputs, immunity to electromagnetic interference, corrosion protection class C5, and resistance to hydraulic shock and vacuum. For SCADA and existing communication networks there are DNP3.0 and Modbus RTU protocols and three analogue outputs. According to the order form, the hydrogen measurement range reaches 5000 ppm in oil.
With the Indigo520 transmitter the data can be viewed through the web interface and on a local graphical touch display. The Indigo520 can power the MHT410 over a single cable and serve up to two probes, for example two MHT410 units or an MHT410 and an MMP8 moisture probe. For transformer fleets there is the Viewlinc Cloud Suite cloud system with access to DGA data, trends, real-time alerts including by SMS, reports in PDF and CSV, and data storage for 15 years.
MHT410 is in operation, among others, on the transformer of the Bio Golden Raand biofuel power plant of Eneco (the Netherlands), at the Finnish network company Nivos and in desert conditions at SEWA (UAE).
