KSTAR DDSU666, single-phase dual-channel smart meter for DIN rail (100 A / 40 mA)

The KSTAR DDSU666 is a single-phase dual-channel smart meter for DIN rail with two current inputs of 100 A / 40 mA. It measures voltage, current, frequency, power and energy in both directions, with RS-485 (Modbus-RTU) communication. It is intended for single-phase systems with AC-coupled connection.

Description

The DDSU666 from KSTAR measures energy flows in single-phase systems with AC-coupled connection. The meter has two current inputs, CT1 and CT2, rated for a 100 A / 40 mA signal. With one device it is possible to monitor, for example, the grid and the photovoltaic generation without installing two separate meters. On the manufacturer page, the KSTAR DDSU666 is described as a high-accuracy single-phase smart meter for residential energy storage systems. It accurately measures power imported from the grid and exported to the grid, so export limitation control is built on its data. The Modbus protocol and the RS-485 interface allow it to be connected to hybrid inverters and EMS platforms.

The device measures voltage, current, frequency, active power and power factor, and also keeps a record of active energy in the forward and reverse directions. The accuracy is up to ±0.5 % for active power, ±0.5 % for voltage and current, and ±1 % for energy. Active power is updated approximately every 50 ms. The readings are shown on the LCD, and the screens are switched with a key.

The network is single-phase two-wire (1P2W), the reference voltage is 220–240 V, and the frequency is 50/60 Hz. The normal operating voltage range is 198–253 V, and the extended range is 100–276 V. The operating temperature is in the range of −25…+55 °C.

Communication is over RS-485 using the Modbus-RTU protocol. The baud rate can be selected from 1200, 2400, 4800 and 9600 bit/s (default), as well as 19200 and 115200 bit/s. The meter works together with KSTAR hybrid inverters and energy management systems: its data is used to determine power import and export to the grid and to build control that prevents reverse power flow.

The enclosure measuring 36 × 100 × 65 mm is mounted on a standard 35 mm DIN rail and takes little space in the panel. The KSTAR model is designed for residential photovoltaic installations and storage systems where self-consumption needs to be increased and a clear picture of energy flows is required. The DDSU666 is also suitable for integration with smart energy management systems.

Questions and answers

How many current channels does the KSTAR DDSU666 have, and what signal are they rated for?

The meter has two current inputs, CT1 and CT2, rated for 100 A / 40 mA. This makes it possible to monitor, for example, the grid and the generation with one device.

What is the measurement accuracy?

Active power is measured with an accuracy of up to ±0.5 %, voltage and current also with ±0.5 %, and energy with ±1 %. Active power is updated approximately every 50 ms.

How is the DDSU666 connected to an inverter or a control system?

Through the RS-485 interface using the Modbus-RTU protocol. Baud rates range from 1200 to 115200 bit/s, with 9600 by default.
