Description
GEDRA (Gas Energy Density Raman Analyser) works in real time on natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen. The manufacturer positions it as an alternative to gas chromatographs for calorific value control. Decarbonization of gas supply changes network flows, as biogas, biomethane and natural gas with an admixture of hydrogen enter the network. The gas composition becomes less uniform, so network operators must monitor the main parameters continuously at various points.
The operating principle is based on Raman spectroscopy. A laser beam passes through a measuring cell with a gas sample, and the scattered radiation is analyzed by a spectrometer with a CCD camera. The concentrations of the components are determined from the spectrum, and the calorific value and other quantities are calculated per ISO 6976:2016. The components determined are methane, heavier hydrocarbons (ethane, propane, n-butane, isobutane), nitrogen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, with a lower limit of quantification of 500 ppm. Various gas mixtures are measured without hardware reconfiguration or consumables. The sample returns to the process with no emissions to the atmosphere. The accuracy corresponds to class A (0.5 %) per OIML R 140.
The pressure at the sampling point is from 0.4 to 100 barg for installation type 1 and above 16 barg for type 2. The sample flow is not more than 54 Nl/h, and the operating temperature is from −20 to +50 °C. The instrument is built for harsh conditions and can be placed anywhere on the gas pipeline. The power supply is 24 V DC, consumption is 18 W on average and up to 25 W with a field display. There are two Ethernet and four RS485 ports, the Modbus ASCII protocol per UNI 11885 and a built-in web server. The field display is available on request.
The analyzer is permitted for installation in hazardous zone 1 (II B+H2 T6 or II C T6). It is designed per UNI 9167-3, certified to ATEX, IECEx, EMC, OIML R140 and WELMEC 7.2, and complies with EU Regulation 2024/1787 on methane emissions. It is used at gas distribution stations, metering points, biomethane injection points and in heavy industry.
