ComPass B 2.0 / Bs 2.0 / D — directional short-circuit and earth fault indicators with network monitoring and remote control
ComPass B 2.0, Bs 2.0 and D detect short circuits and earth faults in MV networks with indication of direction and at the same time measure network parameters. The short-circuit setting is 10–2000 A, and current and voltage measurement accuracy is up to 0.5 %. The senior models Bs 2.0 and D also control two switching devices in substations with remote control.

Description
The devices belong to the senior line, in which a directional fault indicator is combined with a multifunction meter, and in the senior models also with a remote control controller. They are installed in MV distribution and central substations that have a telecontrol channel. The fault direction is shown by A/B LED arrows and an OLED display. The neutral mode of the network does not matter.
Six methods are provided for earth faults, and they can be combined. These are the steady-state fault by neutral voltage, earth short circuit, the transient method (Erdschlusswischer), the active component cos φ, the reactive component sin φ and the pulse method Takthub. Earth fault settings are 10–1000 A, and in the load self-adjustment mode the short-circuit setting lies within 200–2000 A. Operating delays for all stages are set within 40 ms–60 s.
The measuring part records currents, phase and line voltages, the direction of power flow, P, Q, S, cos φ, energy, frequency and temperature. A PT100 sensor is connected, for example, to monitor a transformer or the substation room. The device stores maxima for a day, a week and a year, and limits can be set for each quantity, with excursions beyond them sent to the control center as an alarm. Voltage is taken capacitively through built-in indication systems VDIS to IEC 62271-213 or by resistive sensors. If both channels operate, the capacitive one is calibrated automatically against the resistive one, and up to four ComPass devices are connected to one set of resistive sensors.
The versions differ in communication and control functions. ComPass B 2.0 transmits data via RS-485/Modbus. Bs 2.0 additionally controls two switching devices, a load-break switch or a circuit breaker, has six binary inputs for signals such as SF6 pressure or a blown fuse, and freely programmable logic. ComPass D performs the same functions with exchange over Ethernet to IEC 60870-5-104 and is configured with the ComPass Explorer and ScadaData programs.
Parameters are set through the front USB port in the ComPass Explorer software, and the terminals are protected against reverse polarity. The indicators are used in the digitalization of urban and industrial distribution networks and in the modernization of existing gas-insulated and solid-insulated RMUs. In one such project, the German integrator Vrielmann retrofitted a substation with current and voltage sensors and connected ComPass B 2.0 and the Wega 1.2 C system to them.
