C50 — modular online monitoring system for power transformers (C54 / C59)
C50 is a modular online monitoring platform for power transformers at substations and power plants. In one device it collects data on bushings, OLTC, cooling, dissolved gases, oil and its protection system, and can also monitor circuit breakers and switchgear. The unit comes in two sizes, C54 and C59.
- Unit sizes
- C54 — up to 4 expansion boards; C59 — up to 9 expansion boards
- Power supply
- 110–240 V DC or 110–250 V AC (50–60 Hz); 48 V DC on request
- Operating temperature of unit and interface
- from −40 to 70 °C
- Communication
- 10/100 Base-T (RJ45) and FX optical; 2 × RS-485 plus optional RS-485 / RS-232 / optical serial port
Price, availability and lead time on request. We help with analogue selection, customs clearance and delivery.
Description
The open architecture of the C50 allows third-party multi-gas DGA analysers and moisture sensors to be connected. Data is exchanged over a serial channel in digital format, so measurement accuracy is preserved and additional diagnostic information is available from the instruments. Data is displayed on built-in web pages that are accessed remotely.
The C54 holds up to four expansion boards and the C59 up to nine. The processor module, communication module and universal power supply for 110–240 V DC or 110–250 V AC are mandatory. The processor module has a 10/100 Base-T (RJ45) port and an FX optical port with a built-in switch, and supports several SCADA connections. The communication module has two RS-485 ports and one additional RS-485, RS-232 or optical port, which can work as master or slave. Among the expansion boards are relay outputs with analogue inputs and outputs, a board with three Pt100 inputs and four current inputs, a board with 13 digital inputs, five Form C relays, voltage regulation, OLTC monitoring, bushing monitoring by the sum of currents or with a reference voltage from a VT, and a board with nine partial discharge inputs.
Analytics include an active moisture model and an advanced thermal model. The C50 calculates the hottest-spot temperature of the winding with allowance for the state of cooling, insulation ageing, efficiency and serviceability of the cooling system. For the OLTC it keeps tap-change counters for each position, calculates contact wear, monitors drive motor current and voltage and the temperature difference, and raises alarms on slow tap changes.
The system controls cooling in discrete steps, with two-speed fans, parallel pumps or variable-frequency fans. It performs main or backup voltage regulation with line drop compensation and parallel operation of transformers. This means fewer separate devices on each transformer and fewer possible points of failure.
Alarms are grouped into general, main and secondary and are sent to different recipients over several SCADA channels and by e-mail. The control unit and user interface work at temperatures from −40 to 70 °C and are mounted on a DIN rail or panel, and the interface is also available for a 19″ rack. Implementation is supported by the LIFESTREAM service, and data from the transformer fleet is consolidated in DynamicMetrix software.
