VECTOR 36 kV — air-insulated switchgear 36 kV, SF6-free
VECTOR 36 kV is a version of air-insulated switchgear for the 36 kV voltage class, in which switching is done by vacuum circuit breakers and there is no SF6 gas. The unit is intended for substations of wind and solar parks, energy storage systems and industrial networks of 33–35 kV.

Description
The base VECTOR series is produced for 12 and 24 kV, and the new version carries the same platform over to the 36 kV class. The compact layout and the ease of operation and maintenance are preserved, while the design is calculated for the higher demands of power facilities. Like the whole range, the unit works with vacuum circuit breakers without SF6. It is built at the plant in Vaasa (Finland), where the design department and production work side by side.
The rated parameters according to the brochure are as follows: voltage 36 kV, power-frequency test voltage 70 kV, lightning impulse 170 kV, short-time withstand current up to 31.5 kA for 3 s, peak withstand current 79 kA. Internal arc withstand is 31.5 kA for 1 s. The busbars are rated for current up to 2500 A, and the circuit breakers for 1250, 2000 and 2500 A. The cubicle is 2400 mm high, 1000 mm wide and 2450 mm deep.
Compared with the base series, the 36 kV version has been refined on the basis of installation and operating experience, so installation and maintenance are simpler. The busbar, circuit breaker, cable and low-voltage compartments are separated by metal, and damage from an arc fault does not pass into neighboring compartments. A set of electrical and mechanical interlocks blocks access to hazardous parts, and operation is carried out from the front with the doors closed, with individual automatic shutters. For maintenance one can even step into the cabinet and work in a comfortable posture.
The unit has passed the full scope of IEC type tests, including internal arc withstand. According to the manufacturer, the enclosure withstands an arc fault pressure comparable to the weight of a truck and releases it in a controlled way. The designers aimed to fit the maximum number of amperes per square meter of floor area, and the large cable compartment simplifies installation and servicing of cables.
VECTOR 36 kV is supplied as a separate product or as part of a complete turnkey delivery, for example in E-House modular substations, where medium-voltage switchgear is combined with control, protection and communication equipment. Protection relay terminals of any make are allowed in the cabinets. A life cycle assessment has been carried out for the series, and the absence of SF6 reduces the environmental impact. Routine and factory acceptance tests reduce the scope of work during commissioning on site.
