SPREPOWER MV-M7 is a 17.5 kV switchgear assembly from the manufacturer for the traction power supply of 16.7 Hz AC railways. Description
Railways with the 15 kV 16.7 Hz system have a separate traction network with a reduced frequency, and switchgear for it is designed specifically for this frequency. MV-M7 is rated for a nominal voltage of 17.5 kV. The switching devices are mounted on withdrawable elements, so a device is rolled out for inspection or replacement without dismantling the cubicle. Each feeder has a built-in test device (Abzweiggebundene Prüfeinrichtung, AGP) for testing that particular feeder.
Resistance to internal arc is confirmed by the qualification IAC AFLR 40 kA/0.5 s, that is, for access from the front, sides and rear. The loss of service continuity category LSC 2B with partition class PM gives access to the switching device compartment while the busbars, the cables of that feeder and the neighbouring feeders remain energized. Partitions between compartments are metallic.
The rated current of the busbars is up to 2552 A and of the outgoing feeders up to 2419 A. The short-time withstand current is 40 kA and the peak current is 100 kA. Insulation is tested with a power-frequency voltage of 50 kV and an impulse voltage of 125 kV. The cubicle dimensions are height 2250 mm, width 800 or 1000 mm, depth 2000 mm. Height and depth are the same for both widths, so a row of cubicles has an even front.
The switchgear is equipped with SPRECON-E-P RS..6 overcurrent protection devices for traction networks, which operate at 16.7, 25 and 50 Hz, and with SPRECON-E control and telecontrol equipment. The RS..6 protections selectively protect overhead line feeders with single- and double-ended supply and provide backup for traction transformers. The primary and secondary parts of the cubicle are then supplied by one manufacturer, and interfaces between different suppliers do not have to be coordinated. The manufacturer supplies traction power systems as a complete package, with design, installation, testing and commissioning.
Applications are traction substations and sectioning posts of railways with the 15 kV 16.7 Hz system, switchgear supplying overhead line feeders, and traction transformers and lines. For overhead line feeders, the withdrawable design of the devices shortens the supply interruption during circuit breaker maintenance.
