Description
NXPLUS C is a medium-voltage gas-insulated switchgear assembly (GIS) in a metal enclosure for indoor installation. The circuit breakers are vacuum and fixed mounted. The switchgear is factory built and type tested, and is made with a single or a double busbar system.
It is used in transformer and distribution substations of utilities and power plants, and in industry: cement, automotive, metallurgical, mining, petrochemical, chemical, textile, paper and food. Separate fields are pipelines, shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and emergency and traction power supply systems. In urban and industrial networks these are 6–35 kV substations.
According to catalog HA 35.41, the rated voltages are 7.2 kV, 12 kV, 15 kV, 17.5 kV, 24 kV, 36 kV and 38 kV at a frequency of 50/60 Hz. The power-frequency withstand voltage rises from 20 kV (for 7.2 kV) to 70 kV (for 36–38 kV), and the lightning impulse withstand voltage from 60 to 170 kV. For 38 kV the impulse is 150 kV, 170 kV on request. Up to 17.5 kV the breaking and short-time withstand current (3 s) is 31.5 kA with a peak withstand current of 80/82 kA. For 24–38 kV these values are 25 kA and 63/65 kA.
The rated busbar current is up to 2500 A, and feeders are also up to 2500 A, and up to 1250 A for 36 and 38 kV. Panels 450, 600 and 900 mm wide have a depth of 1225 mm and a height of 2250 mm, so a row is assembled from modules of the same type.
The welded tank enclosures work as hermetically sealed pressure systems for the entire service life. Together with single-pole solid insulation, this makes the primary circuits insensitive to the environment and independent of the installation altitude. Installation and operation need no SF6 gas handling, and the switching devices and the closed cable plug-in bushings are maintenance free. The degree of protection of live parts is IP65 and of the enclosures IP3XD to IEC 60529. The panels have been tested for internal arc resistance up to 31.5 kA, and logical mechanical interlocks prevent erroneous operations. The compactness of the gas insulation makes it possible to use existing substation rooms. Approvals of the classification societies DNV GL and ABS are available for ships and platforms, and the NXPLUS C Wind version is adapted to onshore and offshore wind turbines.
