MS-E / MS-E-2 — air-insulated switchgear 7.2–15 kV (single-tier and double-tier)
MS-E is metal-clad air-insulated switchgear with withdrawable elements for 7.2, 12 and 15 kV per IEC 62271-200. It supplies and protects motors, transformers, capacitor banks and other feeders at power plants, substations, in industry and infrastructure. The double-tier MS-E-2 version for 7.2/12 kV reduces the width of the switchgear by 35 %.

Description
The company has produced hundreds of thousands of medium-voltage cubicles over almost 70 years. Type tests of the MS-E were carried out in the company's own high-voltage laboratory in Japan and in the independent KEMA laboratory in the Netherlands. With VPR breakers the cubicles are also used in marine installations, where ABS approval exists.
The cubicle is divided into a relay compartment, a withdrawable element compartment, a busbar compartment and a cable compartment. Partitions and automatic shutters completely insulate live parts, and the mechanical and electromechanical interlocks comply with IEC 62271-200. The withdrawable element is moved with the door closed, and the arc resistance of the cubicle is preserved. During an internal arc the pressure is released through flaps in the roof, and where necessary a gas exhaust duct or screen is installed. The thermal design made it possible to use breakers up to 3150 A without fans.
The busbars are rated for 630, 1250, 2000 and 3000/3150 A, with forced cooling up to 4000 A. The short-time withstand current is 25, 31.5 or 40 kA, and the test voltages are 20/28/36 kV power frequency and 60/75/95 kV lightning impulse. The internal arc classification AFL/AFLR reaches 40 kA for 1 s. A 7.2 kV 630 A feeder cubicle has dimensions of 800×1500×2600 mm. The cubicles are equipped with VPR vacuum circuit breakers, and for motor feeders up to 7.2 kV with VMC vacuum contactors.
The double-tier MS-E-2 version places two withdrawable devices one above the other in a single enclosure. The frequently used withdrawable VPR, VMC and VT, the earthing switch and the control devices are moved to the front part, while CTs, zero-sequence CTs, surge arresters and cables are located in the rear. For a switchgear consisting of two incomers, a bus section and two feeder cubicles the width is reduced from 7200 to 4700 mm. The MS-E-2 has class AFLR 40 kA / 1 s, loss of service continuity category LSC2B-PM and a cubicle size of 800×2200×2600 mm.
The cubicles are shipped with the withdrawable elements already installed, so on site it remains to set them on the foundation, connect the busbars and connect the cables. The withdrawable devices and the earthing switch are operated from outside the enclosure, and contactor-based motor starters comply with IEC 60470.
