HS-X (Type 1) — cubicle-type GIS 12/24 kV with SF6 or dry-air insulation
HS-X (Type 1) is a cubicle-type gas-insulated switchgear (C-GIS) for 12 and 24 kV with a busbar current of 630 or 1250 A. It is installed at distribution substations, industrial enterprises, infrastructure facilities and power plants. Since 2016 the company has supplied cubicle GIS for offshore wind farms.

Description
In each bay the vacuum circuit breaker, the combined three-position disconnector-earthing switch and the busbars are placed in a sealed gas tank that requires no maintenance. The three-position device makes simultaneous closing of the disconnector and the earthing switch impossible. The busbars have solid phase-by-phase insulation, so a phase-to-phase fault on the busbars is excluded, and during installation and extension of the switchboard there is no need to work with gas. The cable terminations have standard IEEE/DIN dimensions.
The insulating medium is SF6 at a pressure of 0.13 MPa abs. For 630 A versions, compressed dry air at a pressure of 0.17 MPa abs is offered as an option. The company describes itself as a world leader in dry-air insulation technology, which makes it possible to dispense with SF6. The short-time withstand current is 25 kA for 3 s, and the test voltages are 75/125 kV lightning impulse and 28/50 kV power frequency for 1 min.
The vacuum circuit breaker has an electromagnetic operating mechanism that is actuated from a capacitor. The breaker interrupts 25 kA, makes 63 kA, and the interrupting time is 3 cycles. The electromagnetic mechanism has 35 % fewer parts than a spring one, uses approximately 80 % less energy per operation and needs no maintenance for more than 15 years. The control supply is DC 110 V. On the front a mimic diagram shows the state of the breaker and of the disconnector-earthing switch, and the controls are located approximately at eye level.
The bay set includes wide-range current transformers 2000/5 or 600/5 A of class 10P20/1.0, earthed voltage transformers 11 or 22 kV, zinc-oxide surge arresters and the MP multifunction relay. The relay combines protection, measurement and control and works with the Modbus RTU, CC-Link and CDL protocols.
During an internal arc the gases are directed upward, away from the operator, and there are no accessible live parts inside the cubicle. Compared with the company's previous GIS of the same ratings, the installation area is 46 % smaller. Power and control cables can be brought in from different directions. As options, plug-in cable terminations and test terminals on the earthing switch are fitted, through which the cable is tested with high voltage without disconnection. The 630 A version with dry air complies with IEC 62271-200, and the other versions with IEC 60298. Outdoor cubicles are 250 mm deeper and 350 mm taller.
