HS-X, cubicle GIS 24/36 kV for primary substations
HS-X at 24/36 kV is a cubicle gas-insulated switchgear (C-GIS) for indoor installation. It is installed at 36 kV primary substations, at large industrial consumers, in power plant switchgear and at renewable energy facilities, including offshore wind farms. Rated currents are 630, 1250, 2000 and 2500 A.

Description
The switchgear is made with a single and a double busbar system. Both versions protect personnel during an internal arc fault, with classification AFLR 31.5 kA / 1 s or 40 kA / 1 s according to IEC 62271-200. The vacuum circuit breakers have a motor-spring mechanism.
The plug-in busbars have solid insulation. Therefore no gas work is done on site during installation and extension of the switchgear. The gas compartments are filled to rated pressure at the factory and divided by installation unit, so installation is faster and simpler. Each installation unit is tested at the factory, which shortens the time to put the substation into operation and preserves the quality of the equipment during transport.
The rated voltage is 24 or 36 kV, the frequency 50/60 Hz. The power frequency withstand voltage is 50 / 70 kV for 1 minute, and the lightning impulse withstand voltage 125 / 170 kV. The short-time withstand current is 25, 31.5 or 40 kA for 3 s. SF6 is at a low gauge pressure of 0.03 MPa, and the alarm operates when it falls to 0.02 MPa. The low gauge pressure reduces the mechanical load on the walls of the gas compartments.
An outgoing 24 kV 1250 A cell has typical dimensions of 600×1900×2300 mm, another version 800×1900×2910 mm. The depth of 1900 mm is the same for both versions, so cells of different width and height stand in one row. Cells 600 mm wide make it possible to place a switchboard with many connections in a small switchgear room. For incomers and bus sections at higher currents, suitable cells from the same range are chosen.
Like the smaller HS-X model for 12/24 kV, the switchgear draws on the manufacturer's experience in cubicle GIS and vacuum switching. The design is compact and needs minimal maintenance throughout its service life. For offshore wind farms, where access to equipment is limited, minimal maintenance is of practical importance. The cubicle GIS HS-X for 24/36 kV complements the smaller model for 12/24 kV, so switchboards of different voltage classes of one series can be supplied to one site.
