Description
The GESG series covers cubicle-type gas-insulated switchgear for 25.8 and 36 kV for power system substations, industrial enterprises and infrastructure. It is installed in 20–35 kV distribution points of substations, power plants, large industrial facilities and data centres. The catalogue presents the types GESG 0222-NC, GESG 0243-NC and GESG 0342-NC.
For 25.8 kV the short-time withstand current is 25 kA (3 s) at rated currents of 600 and 2000 A and 40 kA at 1250 and 3150 A. Lightning impulse is 150 kV, frequency 60 or 50/60 Hz, breaking current 25 or 40 kA, break time 5 cycles. Gas pressure is 0.5/0.35 (rated/minimum, kgf/cm² g) for 25 kA and 1.0/0.8 for 40 kA. For 36 kV the data are as follows: 40 kA, rated currents 1250 and 2500 A, impulse 170 kV, 50/60 Hz, break time 3 cycles, pressure 1.0/0.7. The one-minute test voltage for all versions is 70 kV. According to the manufacturer, the dielectric strength at power frequency and impulse is about 30 % above the norm, and temperature rise tests show a margin of 15–25 %.
The breaker is a vacuum type, with an interrupter designed specifically for medium-voltage GIS. The mechanical class of the breaker is M2 (10 000 operations), and of the disconnector and earthing switch M1 (2000 operations). The breaker drive is motor-spring, and the disconnector and earthing switch drive is motorised. Duty cycles are O-0.3 s-CO-15 s-CO and O-0.3 s-CO-3 min-CO. The disconnector-earthing switch is three-position, so separate mechanical and electrical interlocks are not needed. The busbars are double (A BUS and B BUS) with sectionalising and bus coupler cubicles.
Gas pressure is monitored by a pressure gauge and a pressure relay in each compartment, with an alarm and an interlock when it drops. The built-in control unit has a front panel (local and remote control, indication, mimic diagram), and a digital protection relay is added. The installation is compact and the footprint is minimal. The standards are IEC 62271-1/100/102/200 and ES 5925-0001. The manufacturer operates under the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

Questions and answers
What rated currents and breaking currents do the 25.8 kV GESG cubicles have?
At 25.8 kV the rated currents are 600 and 2000 A at 25 kA (3 s) and 1250 and 3150 A at 40 kA. The break time is 5 cycles.
How does the 36 kV version differ?
For 36 kV the data are 40 kA, rated currents of 1250 and 2500 A, lightning impulse of 170 kV and a break time of 3 cycles. Gas pressure is 1.0/0.7 kgf/cm² g.
Which standards is the GESG built to, and what endurance do the switching devices have?
The standards are IEC 62271-1/100/102/200 and ES 5925-0001. The breaker has mechanical class M2 (10 000 operations), the disconnector and earthing switch M1 (2000 operations).
