CBGS-0 — gas-insulated primary distribution switchgear, 24/36 kV (ANSI 27/38 kV), up to 2000 A
CBGS-0 is a series of gas-insulated primary distribution switchgear for 24/36 kV per IEC and 27/38 kV per ANSI, with busbar current up to 2000 A. The circuit breaker cubicles, in a sealed stainless steel tank, are accessed from the front only. The series is installed in HV/MV and MV/MV transformation centres, traction substations, solar and wind power plants.

Description
CBGS-0 is assembled from functional units, each of which contains all the equipment for its function. The series has three variants: IEC, railway RAIL and ANSI. Under IEC the rated voltage is 24 or 36 kV, under ANSI 27 or 38 kV. The units work in HV/MV and MV/MV transformation centres, and more than 25,000 are in service in over 60 countries.
The unit is divided into compartments. At the top is the low-voltage compartment, where Sepam, MiCOM or similar protection and control relays are fitted to order. The main busbars, with silicone insulation, screened and earthed, are placed at the upper rear, outside the gas tank. The central tank is made of 2.5 mm stainless steel, filled with SF6 and sealed for life, and houses the circuit breaker and the three-position disconnector. The cable compartment at the bottom has front access. The unit is serviced from the front only, so it can be placed against a wall. A 36 kV unit takes up 0.75 m², whereas an equivalent air-insulated one needs 2.30 m². The design service life is 30 years.
The circuit breaker is chosen for the task. The SF6 SF1-P is rated 24 kV, 1250 A, 25 kA; the SF6 SF1-G is 36 kV, 2500 A, 31.5 kA; the vacuum DP is 24/36 kV, 1250/2000 A, 25/31.5 kA, and in it SF6 serves only as insulation. The spring operating mechanism is always motorised, and the motor charges the spring in less than 10 seconds. The set of functions covers transformer or line protection, sectionalising and busbar riser, a bus coupler unit with disconnector, a 630 A load break switch of class E3/M0 and a load break switch with CF fuses. For traction substations there is a single-phase 1×27.5 kV unit for currents up to 2500 A.
The units are designed and certified to IEC 62271-1, -100, -102, -103, -200 and IEC 60529, they have UL certification to IEEE/ANSI standards and meet CSA requirements. Internal arc resistance IAC AFL/AFLR is offered to order, and the seismic version complies with IEEE 693-2005. Gas is not refilled on site, and installation and commissioning are carried out by electricians certified for the CBGS-0 series.
The CBGS-0 Connected version receives wireless contact temperature sensors Easergy TH110, humidity sensors CL110, Easergy P3/P5 relays and LPVT voltage sensors, and the sensors exchange data over the Zigbee protocol. Hot-spot temperature, humidity, condensation and short-circuit operations are accumulated in a history, which is used to plan maintenance and upgrades. The series is used in solar and wind power plants, industry, railways, utility companies, data centres, airports and hospitals.
