8VM1 / 8VM3 Blue GIS — compact GIS up to 72.5 kV with clean air (wind turbines, substations)
8VM1 and 8VM3 are compact gas-insulated switchgear of the 72.5 kV class from the SF6-free Blue portfolio. Vacuum circuit breakers with a spring-operated mechanism work in a clean air environment. The switchgear is installed in wind turbines and wind farm internal networks, and at 35–72.5 kV substations of distribution networks and industrial enterprises.

Description
Insulation is provided by a mixture of 80 % nitrogen and 20 % oxygen, purified and dried, with zero global warming potential. The mass of fluorinated gases in the switchgear is zero. The medium is non-toxic and non-flammable, and emission accounting, density monitoring and gas disposal are not required.
The 8VM1 Blue GIS is designed for onshore and offshore wind turbines. The unit capacity of turbines is growing, and wind farm internal networks are moving to higher voltage. This reduces current and cable losses, and compact 72.5 kV GIS is installed directly in the turbine tower. The rated current is up to 1250 A, the breaking and short-time withstand current up to 31.5 kA for 1 s, and the peak withstand current 85 kA. The test voltage is 140 kV and the lightning impulse 325 kV. The cable compartments are classified for internal arc IAC A FLR 31.5 kA, 1 s according to IEC 62271-200. The filling pressure is 0.56 MPa (abs.). The width is up to 2935 mm depending on the configuration, the height 2430 mm, the depth up to 1230 mm, the weight up to 2.6 t, and the operating temperature −30…+45 °C. The switchgear is fully assembled and tested at the factory and shipped as a single transport unit. The 2000th 8VM1 unit was delivered to the Hornsea 3 project in the North Sea.
The 8VM3 Blue GIS is a new modular 72.5 kV version for ordinary onshore substations and for wind power. The first version is rated for a rated current of up to 3000 A and 50 kA for 3 s. Its bay, 800 mm wide, works indoors and outdoors at −50…+55 °C. The second version for 1250 A and 31.5 kA (3 s) is 1050 mm wide and is installed indoors at −30…+40 °C. Up to three bays can arrive preassembled at the factory.
The first overhaul of both switchgear types is needed no earlier than after 25 years, and the service life is over 50 years. The switchgear complies with IEC and IEEE standards.
