SUBTRAN — submerged multistage cryogenic pumps for LNG and liquid hydrogen (tanks, stations, marine fuel)
SUBTRAN multistage submerged pumps handle LNG, ethylene, liquid nitrogen and argon, and in the LH2 version also liquid hydrogen. Design differential pressure is 19–30 bar depending on the model, and the flow of marine versions reaches 240 m³/h. The pumps are installed in tanks, at filling stations, in regasification systems and in ship fuel systems.

Description
The pump has a built-in submerged electric motor cooled by the pumped liquid. The design without shaft seals rules out gas leakage and is built for a long service life. The motor bearings are lubricated by the medium itself, so the pump requires virtually no maintenance. Besides LNG and ethylene, it handles liquid nitrogen and argon, and for the hydrogen economy the SUBTRAN LH2 version for liquid hydrogen at −253 °C is produced.
The hydraulic section contains a balanced machined inducer that gives the minimum required NPSH over the whole characteristic. The impellers are closed, high-efficiency, investment cast, and the casing has a machined axial diffuser. The cold end is made of aluminium, so the weight is lower, and the submerged design gives a very low noise level. The pump starts and stops instantly with minimal cool-down time. Its dimensions make it interchangeable with similar pumps in existing sumps.
The model range is SUBTRAN 15, 22, 45, 60 and 75. Design differential pressure is 19 bar for SUBTRAN 15, 20 bar for SUBTRAN 60 and 75, and 30 bar for SUBTRAN 22 and 45; the flow of marine models is up to 240 m³/h. Variable-speed versions for 1–20 m³/h and up to 20 bar are used in regasification systems, at filling stations and as feed pumps. Installation options include the flanged version FV, a low-pressure barrel LP or a removable pump RP, in a remote sump or directly in the tank. SUBTRAN LH2 hydrogen pumps have a capacity of up to 600 m³/h. The modular A-SUBTRAN skid for filling stations holds one or two pumps (up to 720 l/min) and is supplied with a vacuum-insulated sump, insulated piping and ATEX instrumentation.
The pumps are designed to IGC 11/82 recommendations. Each undergoes mechanical and cryogenic tests measuring head, flow, seal gas consumption, efficiency, NPSH, noise and vibration, and the results are passed to the customer.
The pumps are used for LNG offloading from tanks, in regasification systems for power plants and peak shaving, at LNG filling stations, in marine fuel gas systems (feeding high-pressure pumps) and for liquid hydrogen transfer. Supervision of installation and commissioning, a 24-hour support line, service contracts, repair and personnel training are available from the manufacturer.
