Description
SCM 360 is a high-capacity screw boil-off gas compressor for controlling pressure in LNG tanks and supplying fuel gas on LNG carriers. It is a single-stage oil-flooded machine whose proven technology is combined with capacity control by a variable frequency drive (VFD) for marine fuel gas systems.
The machine handles the boil-off gas generated in the cargo tanks. Rated capacity is 2 900 m³/h, maximum mass flow 3 350 kg/h of boil-off gas. Rated inlet pressure is 1.03 bar abs., maximum discharge pressure 13 bar abs. According to the manufacturer, current two-stroke dual-fuel engines need fuel gas at a pressure of about 13 bar. Residual oil content after the oil separation system is 1 ppm, 0.1 ppm on request. The inlet pressure of 1.03 bar abs. is almost atmospheric, and the highest discharge pressure of 13 bar abs. matches the engine requirement. The drive is direct from an electric motor, maximum power 660 kW, speed no more than 3 000 rpm.
The unit is supplied as a complete package on a frame measuring 6.0 × 4.0 × 2.9 m and weighing 23 t. The package includes an oil injection system, oil separation and an aftercooler. The design features a low-speed compressor, few moving parts, a simple mechanical structure, a fully integrated frame, local control and simple speed control. The machine can be installed in a hazardous area.
SCM 360 works as part of one complex with CM centrifugal compressors, gas heaters, LNG vaporizers, separators and gas coolers. The complex prepares fuel gas and serves cargo tank operations. The boil-off gas is compressed and goes to the ship's power plant, so the ship receives clean fuel while the gas from the cargo tanks remains under control. The unit is started when tank pressure needs to be maintained, and its capacity is adjusted by speed. Marine equipment is manufactured under the supervision of leading classification societies.
Applications are LNG carriers, bunker vessels, floating storage and regasification units, and onshore facilities where boil-off gas compression to medium pressure is required. Each machine undergoes factory mechanical and cryogenic tests.
