Description
A complete range of compressors is available for boil-off gas (BOG) of liquefied natural gas and for the handling of liquefied gases. All of them are based on API 618 for process compressors, which sets high demands on operation and efficiency. What they have in common: oil-free compression (up to 400 bar for ME-GI and X-DF HP engines), operation with both cryogenic (−140 °C) and warm (+40 °C) gas on the suction side, a gas-tight design for zero emissions, and slow-running reinforced machines. Free forces and moments are balanced so that harmful vibration is not transmitted to the structure of the vessel or plant. Capacity control with valve unloading and bypasses gives high efficiency at part load.
The range is as follows. The TES63GT has 1 crank, 1 or 2 stages, up to 600 kg/h, and a discharge pressure of 8 bar(a) on one stage or 14 bar(a) on two; it is fitted to the fuel gas systems of dual-fuel engines and to reliquefaction systems. The TZS63GT has 2 cranks, 2 stages, more than 1000 kg/h and 9–14 bar(a), for large LNG tanks. The 4TEV63GT has 1 crank, 3–4 stages, 500 kg/h, about 330 bar(a) (high-pressure package 326 bar(a)) and supplies gas from type C tanks to ME-GI engines, boilers and combustion units. The 5TEW63GT has up to 5 stages, up to 600 kg/h, up to 400 bar(a), for type A, type B and membrane tanks. The 1TZS30GT returns vapours during bunkering, about 1000 kg/h at 1.0 bar and −140 °C, discharge 2–4 bar(a), and is also suitable for warming up and inerting tanks.
For LNG carriers and floating storage and regasification units (FSRU, FSU), medium and large capacity machines are built, for example the 4TFS320GT, 4TVS190GT and 2TZV130GT, namely high- and low-pressure fuel compressors, MSO compressors and reliquefaction boosters.
Cargo compressors are supplied for LPG/LEG carriers, including those for liquid ammonia and CO2. Higher efficiency gives more refrigeration capacity, higher condensing temperatures, and faster loading and cool-down. The process and the reliquefaction plant are calculated in proprietary software. Production takes place at four plants in Germany, with series manufacture, spare parts and service for fleets worldwide. Onshore, the same compressors are suitable for LNG terminals, bunkering stations and small-scale liquefaction plants.

Questions and answers
What pressure do BOG compressors give for ME-GI engines?
Oil-free compression reaches up to 400 bar for ME-GI and X-DF HP engines. The 5TEW63GT gives up to 400 bar(a), and the 4TEV63GT about 330 bar(a).
What gas temperatures do these compressors work with?
On the suction side, cryogenic gas at −140 °C and warm gas at +40 °C are permitted. The design is gas-tight, for zero emissions.
Which model should be chosen for bunkering?
For vapour return during bunkering there is the 1TZS30GT, about 1000 kg/h at 1.0 bar and −140 °C, discharge 2–4 bar(a). It is also used for warming up and inerting tanks.
