Description
A reciprocating compressor often delivers more gas than the process needs, because of the physics and design of the machine and variations in operating conditions. Traditionally the excess is returned to suction through a bypass valve, the energy spent compressing it is lost, and step control does not allow the delivery to be matched precisely to demand. The manufacturer's systems solve this task steplessly.
HydroCOM is a fully automated stepless capacity control system based on the reverse flow principle. Hydraulic actuators hold the suction valves open at the start of the compression stroke, and only the volume of gas the process needs is compressed. This eliminates recirculation and noticeably reduces driver energy consumption, and where efficient part-load operation is required, the compressor can be designed with fewer cylinders. About 1600 systems are in operation. The actuators give fast and precise control from 10 to 100 % within three shaft revolutions. The modular system is easily integrated into new and existing installations, data exchange between the PLC and the actuators is handled by the CIU unit, and built-in temperature monitoring of the suction valve covers detects leaking valves. Unloading force up to 6800 N, suction pressure up to 160 bar, speed up to 1200 rpm. Versions are available for corrosive media and for non-lubricated compressors, with explosion protection certificates ATEX, IECEx, FM, CSA, TIIS, EAC, KCs, INMETRO, NEPSI, CCOE and others.
The eHydroCOM is a fully electric, standardized and 100 % oil-free system for the same purpose. The patented actuator combines electronic and electric drive technologies. There is no hydraulic oil that could leak, wear is practically absent, and real-time monitoring and remote diagnostics are provided. The control range is from less than 10 to 100 %. Use is limited to a force of up to 2.5 kN, a speed of 800 rpm and a suction pressure of 70 bar(a). Protection IP65, explosion protection ATEX zone 1 IIC, actuator supply 60 V DC, power unit supply 3×400 V AC. Maintenance intervals are 32 000 h at speeds up to 400 rpm and 24 000 h at 400–800 rpm. The same actuator suits all stages and compressors, and clearances and wear are compensated automatically.
The eVCP is an electric variable clearance pocket that changes capacity automatically, steplessly and in real time under fluctuating field pressure. According to customer feedback, it gives up to 10 % more capacity through better use of the driver power and eliminates manual repositioning of the pockets.
