CP / CPs / XP — profiled plate valves for reciprocating compressors handling natural and process gas, up to 300 bar
Profiled plate valves for reciprocating compressors handling natural and process gas at pressures up to 300 bar. The PowerPEEK® plate has 4–6 times the impact strength of standard PEEK, and the effective flow area is 30–50 % larger. The valves operate both lubricated and non-lubricated.

Description
The valve is the heart of a reciprocating compressor, and the efficiency of the machine and its service life between overhauls depend on it to a decisive degree. The CP, CPs and XP series are profiled plate valves in which the conventional design is replaced by an aerodynamically profiled plate made of PowerPEEK®. The plates are injection molded with a directed orientation of the reinforcing fibers, and they have 4–6 times the impact strength of standard PEEK.
The profiled plate and the larger number of flow channels give an effective flow area 30–50 % larger than in conventional valves, and high efficiency even at low lift. The aerodynamic flow path reduces pressure loss and particle deposits and lets small amounts of liquid and contaminants pass through. The wave-profiled guard and the conical seat (anti-stiction) reduce the adhesion forces of liquids and prevent delayed opening and closing, so the valve tolerates excess lubricant and liquid carryover. Spring protectors prevent the coils from touching the guard, and springs made of electroslag remelted steel withstand high dynamic loads. A high degree of standardization reduces the range of spare parts held in stock.
The CP series is the world standard for natural gas compressors with a discharge pressure up to 300 bar and a differential pressure up to 200 bar (depending on gas temperature). Suction temperature is from −40 °C, discharge temperature up to 230 °C, gas molecular weight 12–80 g/mol, speed up to 1800 rpm, valve diameters 88–212 mm. The CPs is designed for high-speed natural gas compression, with a damper plate that softens impacts on opening, and it is also recommended for biogas and green methane. The XP is intended for process gases, with pressure up to 300 bar, differential pressure up to 200 bar, temperature from −40 to +230 °C, molecular weight 2–50 g/mol, up to 1500 rpm, diameters 86–262 mm. All series work both with and without cylinder lubrication.
According to the manufacturer, switching to these valves reduces the electricity or fuel consumption of the driver and the associated CO2 emissions, and increases the overhaul interval and capacity. In a new project the size and number of valves and the compressor footprint can be reduced. The valves are used in compressors for gas production, gathering, transmission and underground storage, at gas treatment plants, and in oil refining and petrochemicals.
