SICON, bolted connectors and cable lugs with stepless shear bolts for cable accessories, 10–630 mm²
SICON is a range of bolted connectors, cable lugs and special connectors from the manufacturer with patented shear bolts without predetermined breaking points for conductors of 10–630 mm². They are used in the termination and joint accessories, terminal boxes and low-voltage connectors of the company. The choice of connector does not depend on the material and construction of the conductor, the voltage class and the current.

Description
According to the manufacturer, SICON technology has become an internationally recognised standard of cable connections, including in high and extra-high voltage accessories. One connector covers a wide range of cross-sections, so a small set of sizes is enough on site. This is convenient during repairs, when it is not known in advance which conductors will have to be connected and in what condition they are. Aluminium or copper, solid or stranded conductor, the connection is made with the proper contact pressure.
The SICON bolt has no predetermined breaking points. Therefore the whole load capacity of the thread works during tightening: the contact force on the conductor is balanced by the tension of the threaded bush, and when the force reaches the required value the bolt breaks off. The break always occurs level with the upper edge of the body, without sharp protrusions and without finishing, and the rest of the bolt stays in the tool. Installation is done with a standard hexagon key with a ratchet or with a wrench, also in tight spaces. A rotating friction disc at the base of the bolt converts the torque into contact force regardless of the material and does not allow the wires to be damaged.
Transverse grooves in the conductor channel break through oxide films and form line contact points with a stably low contact resistance. The pull-out force of the conductor exceeds the requirements of the standards, and the conductivity between wires increases. For aluminium conductors the contact force is up to 30 % higher than in conventional connectors. After installation, caps close the recesses, and the body again has a cylindrical shape without edges. Centring rings keep thin conductors in the centre. An oil stop prevents oil from escaping at the transition from oil-impregnated conductors to polymer ones, and the short body simplifies centring in the field grading zone.
The range includes bolted connectors MC-OS, standard cable lugs MCL for indoor and outdoor terminations, lugs with two holes at a distance of 44.5 mm and centred lugs for separable connectors. The branch connector BMC joins three conductors regardless of cross-section and material, the split connector SPLIT-MC consists of two parts for places where the cable is hard to bend, the repair connector RMC-OS is 446 mm long, and CopperTop provides a transition from aluminium to copper. The length of the connectors in the series is 59–446 mm. The products are suitable for heat-shrink, cold-shrink and tape joints and have passed electrical and mechanical type tests according to IEC 61238-1, class A. Special versions SICON Customized are made to order.

Questions and answers
Which cross-sections and conductor materials are SICON connectors suitable for?
The series is designed for copper and aluminium conductors of all common types with a cross-section of 10–630 mm². Each connector covers several adjacent cross-sections, for example MC-OS for 10–95 mm² or for 300–630 mm².
Which standard were SICON connectors tested to?
The connectors have passed electrical and mechanical type tests according to IEC 61238-1, class A.
What is used to install SICON, and does the bolt need finishing after tightening?
A standard hexagon key with a ratchet or a wrench is enough. The bolt breaks off level with the upper edge of the body, so no finishing is needed, and the recesses are closed with caps.
