SEANEX, inner cone plug-in connection system for 66 kV inter-array cables of offshore wind farms
SEANEX is a high-voltage inner cone connection system from the manufacturer for inter-array cables of 66 kV offshore wind farms. It is built on the CONNEX system rated up to 550 kV and adapted to marine conditions. The system connects the offshore cable to the wind turbine switchgear through a cast connection coupler.

Description
The manufacturer stresses that the electrical installations of offshore wind farms operate at 66 kV, that voltages keep rising, and that the power supply must hold for at least 25 years. Some operators still put medium-voltage equipment on critical interfaces, and this is a risk. SEANEX covers exactly this section. The system uses proven high-voltage inner cone technology rather than adapted MV products, and it is designed for the whole service life of the wind farm in salt seawater, at least 25 years.
The components are certified by DNV GL and comply with the new marine standard IEC 63026. All parts are made of shipbuilding materials. The components are fully submersible and resistant to salt water without loss of service life. The metal enclosure makes the system touch-safe, and it requires no maintenance.
The central element of the system is a cast connection coupler, through which the wind turbine is quickly connected to the wind farm grid. The coupler is fixed with four screws onshore, and at sea only the plug-in connectors of the offshore cables remain to be inserted. The cable sections between the coupler and the switchgear and between the switchgear and the transformer arrive pre-assembled, tested and ready for connection. They do not need to be tested at sea, because all checks are carried out at the factory before shipment. A coupler with a blanking plug can serve as test equipment. A clear interface between the offshore cable and the wind turbine separates the responsibility of the contractors at each construction stage.
The electrical and mechanical contacts in SEANEX are separated, so, in the manufacturer's assessment, the system is considerably more robust than other connection options. A lamella contact with a spring system transmits current stably even under sharp load changes. During installation the connectors are inserted into the sockets and couplers and fixed with three screws. A rotating bell-shaped flange allows the connector to be oriented through 360°. The current runs in a straight line without corners or edges, no transition box is needed, and the cables are not twisted. The connection can be disconnected without loss of quality, and the installation time at sea is very short. For connections and links up to 550 kV the company offers the CONNEX system.
