TX-RCH air-cooled turbogenerators up to 300 MVA
TX-RCH are two-pole turbogenerators for 50 or 60 Hz rated up to 300 MVA in which the stator and rotor are cooled by air. The machines are installed at small and medium thermal power plants, industrial and geothermal stations and in combined-cycle units.

Description
By class, TX-RCH corresponds to air-cooled turbogenerators of the ТФ and ТЗФ type. Air cooling removes the need for complex auxiliary systems, whether hydrogen or water. There is no hydrogen supply, gas drying or shaft sealing, so there is less auxiliary equipment and operation is cheaper. For plant personnel it also means no hydrogen in the machine hall and none of the related explosion-protection requirements.
The design relies on extensive manufacturing and operating experience. The manufacturer gradually widens the rating range of air-cooled machines through the development of design and production methods. Effective cooling and reduced losses give an efficiency of up to 98.8%. The generator is two-pole, for 50 or 60 Hz, with rated voltage up to 20 kV and power factor 0.85. The robust design simplifies maintenance.
References include the Mindanao coal-fired plant in the Philippines and the Manzhouli Dalaihu 2 × 200 MW cogeneration plant in China. The generator is used in steam turbine units and CHP plants up to 300 MVA, with the gas and steam turbines of combined-cycle plants, and at geothermal and industrial stations. A separate line of work is replacing obsolete hydrogen-cooled generators with air-cooled machines when a station wants to get rid of its hydrogen system.
The turbogenerators are built at the plant in Yokohama, where the stator winding bars are also made under a step-by-step quality control system. The stator frame, the cooling flows and the magnetic field in the end zone are calculated with numerical methods, including stress analysis, CFD modeling and magnetic flux analysis. The manufacturer supplies the generator together with a TX series steam turbine, the D-AVR digital excitation regulator and the D-EHC turbine control system.
