Description
The TX-LCH generator is installed on coal-fired units of 600–1,000 MW and above and in the steam turbine section of large combined-cycle plants. By class it belongs to large turbine generators with hydrogen-water cooling. The machine is two-pole, built for 50 or 60 Hz, with stator voltage up to 30 kV, power factor 0.85 and efficiency up to 99.0 %.
The stator winding bars are cooled by deionized water flowing through hollow strand conductors. Heat is removed directly from the copper, so for the same dimensions the winding withstands a higher current. The water circuit runs on deionized water, so the plant includes a water treatment system. The rotor and stator core are hydrogen-cooled. The stator frame, the cooling gas flows and the magnetic field in the end region have been calculated by numerical methods, including stress analysis, CFD modelling and magnetic flux analysis. The end-winding support system has been designed separately. The generator is compatible with both thyristor and brushless excitation, so the excitation system is chosen to suit the unit requirements.
The manufacturer has supplied water-cooled 2P-60 Hz generators of 1,120 MVA (1,000 MW) since 2001 and continues to build machines above 1,000 MW. Experience from large generators is carried over to smaller machines to make them more compact. Deliveries include the Vinh Tan 4 power plant in Vietnam and a coal-fired plant in North Carolina (USA).
The turbine generators are built at the manufacturer's plant in Yokohama. The stator winding bars are made there too, under a step-by-step quality control system, and for water-cooled windings these requirements are especially strict. In North America the company has carried out more than 114 water-cooled stator rewinds since 2005, and its American divisions have manufactured and installed more than 20,000 such bars for new and rewound generators. Rewinding experience matters to the plant owner, because a water-cooled stator can be repaired on site or at the factory without replacing the whole machine.
The generator is supplied together with a TX series steam turbine, the D-AVR digital excitation regulator and the D-EHC turbine control system. This way the turbine, generator and controls are matched within one project from one manufacturer. The company also provides service, repair and upgrades of turbines and generators.
