Description
Custom synchronous machines for turbine drive are used at industrial power plants, cogeneration units, waste-to-energy plants, biomass and biogas plants, and for the auxiliary power needs of industrial enterprises. The manufacturer points to considerable experience in designing and building turbine-driven generators, and the whole range is designed for continuous operation in severe industrial conditions.
According to the manufacturer, the main characteristics are as follows. Power is up to 35 000 kVA, voltage up to 15 kV, insulation class H, cooling open (ODP) or closed with an air/water (CACW) or air/air (CACA) heat exchanger, and bearings sleeve or rolling. The generators are built to the main international standards and supplied with a wide set of accessories. In the manufacturer's general description the range of generators is 10 to 60 000 kVA, and of custom generators up to 35 000 kVA.
The generators are designed to run in parallel with the grid. The digital D550 and D700 regulators support grid code functions (VDE-AR-N 4110, VDE-AR-N 4105, EU RfG requirements, UK ENA EREC G99), and if required the manufacturer performs calculations of generator behaviour during short circuits and grid voltage dips. To order, reactances and time constants, the no-load characteristic, the IEEE AC8B exciter model (IEEE 421) and a model of the AREP auxiliary windings are provided. For refurbishing old machines there is a digital static excitation system based on D550/D700 and a Mentor converter with excitation current up to 900 A.
Service covers repair and refurbishment of generators up to 35 MW and up to 80 t in workshops, field work, diagnostics and vibration analysis. Application examples are the generators at the Saran waste-to-energy plant (France) and at the Newlincs waste processing plant (United Kingdom). At Saran, after the 2016 flood, the generator and electrical installation were repaired and the control system was updated with a D700 digital voltage regulator; the 29 t generator was removed from the site in less than 3 days. At Newlincs a steam turbine works with an LSA 56 generator of 4700 kVA at 11 kV.
