Description

The series of asynchronous squirrel-cage generators is intended for small hydropower plants with all types of hydro turbines of up to 1.6 MW. Series parameters: output up to 1.6 MW, voltage up to 6.6 kV, speed 100–1500 rpm.

Asynchronous machines do not need a voltage regulator or an excitation system. This simplifies the plant scheme, especially at small sites, and reduces the number of units to be maintained. Thanks to the simpler design they pay back well even at plants of low output. The manufacturer stresses the robust design and the ample dimensions of the machine parts. The rotor is calculated with allowance for a possible increase in speed on load rejection, that is, turbine runaway. The generators operate both in parallel with the grid and in stand-alone mode.

Many versions are available. Horizontal or vertical arrangement, rolling or sliding bearings, an extended shaft end on request and the layout of the terminal boxes can be chosen. All cooling types and protection degrees IP21–IP66 are available, and the rotor can be cylindrical, salient-pole, squirrel-cage or with permanent magnets. Accessories are selected to the customer's requirements, as are the shaft position and terminal box layout. The design is agreed with the parameters of the specific plant and turbine, so before ordering, data on the turbine, speed and grid voltage are needed. The manufacturer designs and produces such machines at its own plant in Vsetín (Czech Republic), where testing, installation, commissioning and service also take place.

The manufacturer has produced the series since 2002. At first these were asynchronous generators for small hydropower plants of up to 1 MW, and later the range was extended to 1.6 MW. Finished machines are tested on the company's own test bench. High-voltage tests cover equipment at 6.6 and 10.8 kV weighing up to 85 t, and low-voltage tests are carried out for machines weighing up to 10 t.

An asynchronous generator is economical for diversion-type and run-of-river small hydropower plants operating on the grid. The product is close to the asynchronous generators used at small hydropower plants in Ukraine and is suitable for replacing them during reconstruction.

Questions and answers

What output and voltage is the series designed for?

For output up to 1.6 MW and voltage up to 6.6 kV, speed 100–1500 rpm.

Are a voltage regulator and an excitation system needed?

No. Asynchronous machines do without a regulator and excitation, so the design is simpler and the payback is good even at small plants.

In what modes does the generator operate?

In parallel with the grid and in stand-alone mode. The rotor is designed for possible turbine runaway on load rejection.
