SGen-100A / SGen-1000A — air-cooled turbo generators 25–370 MVA
SGen-100A and SGen-1000A are series of air-cooled synchronous turbo generators of 25–370 MVA for steam and gas turbines. SGen-100A is made in two- and four-pole versions, and SGen-1000A is a two-pole machine of 180–370 MVA for large power stations. Efficiency reaches 98.9 %, and no hydrogen system is needed at the plant.

Description
The SGen-100A series covers an apparent power of 25–370 MVA at a stator voltage of 6.3–15.75 kV. It is made two-pole and four-pole. SGen-1000A has only two poles, is rated for 180–370 MVA and 10.5–20 kV, and is aimed at large utility power stations. Both series are made for 50 Hz under the designation SGen5 and for 60 Hz under SGen6, with a rated power factor of 0.80 and 0.85 respectively.
Both series are optimized for industrial use and continuous operation in harsh conditions. Cooling is fully by air. Direct radial air flow cools the rotor winding, so the plant needs no hydrogen systems, gas handling or the related safety measures. The customer chooses the excitation, brushless or static.
The stator winding is insulated with the MICALASTIC® system using global vacuum pressure impregnation (GVPI) technology, thermal class F. Since 1988 more than 1700 stator windings of turbo generators with a total rating above 240 000 MVA have been made with this technology, and the reliability figure exceeds 99.9 %. Impregnation consolidates the winding tightly and still leaves it free for axial thermal expansion. Vibration sparking and slot discharges are eliminated, there is no need to rewedge the slots and tighten the end windings, and the stator core needs no maintenance. SGen-1000A is designed for 10 000 start-stop cycles over its service life.
The base version complies with IEC and IEEE/ANSI standards. The generators work in steam and combined-cycle power plants, CHP and industrial plants, as part of simple- and combined-cycle gas turbine plants in peak, intermediate and base load duty. In the oil and gas industry they are installed onshore and offshore, including in explosion-proof versions.
A separate area is the replacement of obsolete generators with water, hydrogen or air cooling within the existing foundation (Footprint™ replacement). The machine is also operated as a synchronous condenser to stabilize grid frequency and voltage.
