Description
These are self-excited synchronous generators for emergency and standby diesel generators of nuclear power plants. Power ranges from 1 to 20 MW, voltage from 380 V to 15 kV, and they are driven by medium- and high-speed diesel engines. Such sets must start and take on the load of the safety systems on loss of external power supply to the plant, so the generators are subject to qualification requirements, and type tests alone are not enough. The generators are supplied with analogue voltage regulators. The manufacturer classes this field as special, because separate nuclear industry requirements for quality, personnel training and documentation apply to it.
The generators are built to RCCE class K3 requirements or IEEE 1E classification, with qualification of service life for 40 or 60 years. The manufacturer carries out the seismic qualification of the generator itself. Excitation is an AREP system with auxiliary windings and a permanent magnet inductor (PMI), PMG on request. Regulation is by a single analogue voltage regulator or a cabinet with two regulators, qualified to RCCE K3.
The quality management system is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Nuclear activity complies with the international IAEA quality standards (IAEA-50-C-Q, GS-R-3) and EDF SGAQ requirements. Personnel engaged in nuclear projects receive separate safety culture training, and the main customers and operating organisations regularly carry out audits. Each order is assigned a project manager, who follows it from technical requirements to delivery and the service programme. The project manager is responsible for deadlines, delivery of qualification documentation, customer inspections, acceptance with the participation of an inspectorate, and the end of manufacturing report. Qualification documentation is included in the scope of supply.
The manufacturer's references cover France (EDF DUS/CCL and FARN projects), China (Sanmen AP1000, Haiyang AP1000, Ningde, Hongyanhe, Qinshan 2, Ling Ao), India (Kudankulam), Korea (Wolsong 2, 3 and 4), Romania (Cernavoda) and Sweden (Ringhals, Oskarshamn OKG2). The list of sites shows the geography of supply from European to Asian nuclear plants. The generators are considered for replacement of equipment of NPP emergency diesel generator stations by purpose, power and qualification class.
